Nick Walker show @ BRP, by Deleted on Apr 24, 2009 14:36:13 GMT 1, Who's going? What do you think Mr Walker will be doing for the show? Maybe a new direction? Or will he stick to his proven successful formula with just a few new goodies to add to the mix? What do you think the print will be? The Morning After ....? Or something new? it might be nice to see a new The Morning After print maybe TMA Square Mile London (a better photo tho)
and maybe blood instead of paint
or the targ mahal
(you can see why I'm not an artist ;D ) Do you think Alan Carr will be going to this event too? He will be OK if you need to camp out ;D
I can't wait to see what's in the show!

"Many events happen within the world of urban art, but every year a tremor flows through the market when Nick Walker makes work availableโฆNickโs solo show in May will generate interest on a global scale and the popularity of his artistic talent was reflected at his last solo show which saw enthusiasts queue for over 36 hours and sales of $1.5m. At a recent print release at the London Art Fair organisers had to recruit additional staff to handle the influx of prospective buyers."
Kinda makes me wanna spew.

Me too. Thats a horrible write up. They cant even cater to his fans who have been on board for a while. I cant read tis any other way than "HYPE!". Come on BRP. Get it together. Sell all the prints u have at the original price and not months down the line at a ridiculous markup.

eh? I don't remember that, there was only a few more ppl than the prospective 100 prints that were available, tickets were given out and payment details etc were taken - if anything it was hugely underwhelming - i think the days of ppl camping / queuing for days for a ยฃ750 print are well and truly gone unless it was a Banksy

It cost ยฃ475 and was sold out by around lunchtime from what I was told - not really enough time for a queue to form and no reason why it would be much longer than a hundred people anyway.
I'd bet my bottom fiver that if a print was due to be sold of the quality of Empire, TMA London or Life's Too Short then you would have people falling over themselves to buy it - although sadly I'm sure over 50% of those would never intend to put it anywhere other than ebay!

A slight case of hyperbole perhaps....a print run of 12 (?) baby with bomb in their heads thingys have failed or struggled to sell out on his website and some rather rubbish prints are still there for about 50 quid a pop.
I like some of his stuff, but I think Walker was caught up in the rush to find the "new" Banksy and the money shot went off a bit to soon.....

my bad for for not explaining my statement clear enough for the ppl at the back
I was talking about two separate sales initally the empires sale, and if there had been a 'buzz' about this, or in fact it had been some 6 months previous you would have had ppl queuing over night - the fact is the alot of the buzz around these artists has died down greatly
regarding my second statement about queuing over night for ยฃ750 print - those days have gone now too and i was talking about the 'lifes too short' sale
hope that helps

I agree, are all Banksy print good? Not all Banksy prints sold out on POW site a few years ago, well according to others on here, and flippers have now been burnt on most prints, so i think most will stay away, well i hope so, and the market is slow at the moment, well judging by how many print ect are for sale on here at cheaper than cost prices and ebay results ect. Other galleries use the press to promote a show (and this is an old quote too), BRP did a great job at the London Art Fair IMO, they had to police the queue from 9am till well after 6pm, when i left, they had to let in a three or four people in at a time, because it was not their gig and the organizers requested it, so i understood. Yes i wish i did not need to queue for a great print ,but it was worth it in the end and for the ones who got down there early to get a print, saying that people were still getting on the list to get a print in the afternoon if i remember correctly, so everyone had a fair chance to get a print IMO, yes it would have been nice for us all to start queuing at the same time, but it was not BRP fault that people (me included) did not listen to there request and felt the need to chance it a little and get down there early, is it? When BRP turned up in the morning to find the queue had already started forming they did not look over the moon about it, but when they were told that the security staff had already said it was OK, they then spoke to the event organizers, they all came out to assess what was going on, we smooth talked them a little and they agreed to allow us all to carry on queuing, BRP did the only thing they could do after they got the green light from the London Art Fair bosses. I was not leaving anyway, and if they made us all, we would have only stood round the corner queuing, and then there would have been a mad rush at 2pm, it would have not been pretty. If you don't like it, there seems no reason to bitch on here about it, if you want a BRP print from a show ,then i feel it takes An early start, Loads of traveling (well for me it did) An amazing amount of waiting standing around in the queue Some common-sense A bit of luck, It's not rocket science is it?
So come on you guy's, it's an art show with free beer and loads of art, with many like minded people around, well most of them are ;D so just enjoy it, it's better than sitting at home bitching ;D
