GET RICH QUICK! - Banksy, D*Face, Faile - 7th May, by Filipino Box Spring Hog on May 8, 2009 14:40:37 GMT 1, agreed - those prices are out of control - even in a healthy economic environment those prices would be considered high by most.

GET RICH QUICK! - Banksy, D*Face, Faile - 7th May, by motor on May 8, 2009 14:56:56 GMT 1, I have a mixed feelings about this show. Although some, I repeat some, nice and interesting pieces are on the display, most of the rest just shouldn't be there. It really looks like a car boot sale put together by some of the forum members. Old and new, some pieces are probably still not completely dry, quality all over the place and don't get me started on the prices. We have seen most pieces being offered here - no one was interested so lets make a show and sell it there and hope that someone will bite...
CGoCA has put some good shows together and I am sure it will continue to do so however I see this one as a flop.
Afro, that is an interesting comment about those 'Head studies'

Yes but you didn't have to be a lottery ticket buyer to buy one.

They came with an unspoken gentlemans agreement. Im sure Laz will know who is selling it. One appeared for sale at a ridiculously high price on Sab. for sale not long after it was received from Laz until Laz saw it and contacted the seller.

GET RICH QUICK! - Banksy, D*Face, Faile - 7th May, by instinct on May 8, 2009 16:41:09 GMT 1, not a major fan of this gallery at all! When stuff like this is well organised by the correct people and the prices are well set it works very well. When its done this way by 'small timers' (direct quote form major hollywood player) it stinks! Helping no one... least of all the sellers because they will be picking up ther art at the end of this show not the hard cash theat they were looking for!!!

GET RICH QUICK! - Banksy, D*Face, Faile - 7th May, by Prescription Art on May 8, 2009 17:05:07 GMT 1, I don't understand all these comments. Seth seems to have assembled an amazing collection of work.. much of it at very tempting prices if you ask me.
Yes you could pick up some of the editioned work cheaper on the forum or ebay... but not everyone has the time or ability to source this stuff. A car boot sale put together by forum members? Yeah that's right, i'm really sick of seeing Banksy / Micallef / Kaws / Sixeart / Faile & Twist originals being pimped on here for peanuts. I wish I could assemble a show like that.
In addition, believe it or not a large gallery space in Hollywood is not free to run.
Finally, in most cases it's the people selling the work who want the high prices. My advice would be that if you think something is too expensive either don't buy it, or make an offer.
I think it's a bit out of order dissing the gallery as a 'small timers'. What 'major hollywood player' are you quoting here? Personally I can't think of any other LA gallery who puts on more consistently interesting & original line-ups of work. And after all, this is a scene that is supposed to support the 'small player' against the established monied order.

Hey, if you want to say the prices are too high that's fair enough. I was objecting to the 'forum car boot sale' and 'small timers' comments.
On the other hand I suspect Seth knows his customers better than you, and that perhaps some of them might be prepared to pay a premium to have the work sourced for them.
