And as far as street art goes, Parla stands relatively alone in the fact that his work has an intellectual component ... Jose has a very powerful command of art history, and understands well where he is and what he is doing. That's not a common quality.
I don't get or agree with the argument that criticisms were leveled against X artists so this artist must be good too. An oversimplified and uncredible tool used to try and put him in league with those artists.
I'll agree there is beauty in his work, but exactly how intellectual it is, I just don't see it that much myself. And as far as having a command of art history, it may not be a common quality in urban art, but it's very present in the rest of the art world. I'll agree his work is above average for this genre but that's all relative and I think the conceptual component is one of the things that's really going to hold back this genre overall.
It's also amazing how many people here totally bypass artists like Barry Mcgee, some of the other Beautiful Losers and related artists some of whom have multiple solo museum exhibitions on every continent on their resume when talking about the future and artists in terms of historical importance.
Anyway you're smart to want to seize opportunities now, although I don't think the rush to get in is urgent just yet. But you should try contacting Jose's galleries, I'm sure they know if anyone is in the market for a piece like this and willing to pay.

But thats how it goes and history will have a way of straightening that out.
I strongly disagree with you statement about Jose's work lacking conceptual depth. I feel Tadghostal explained quite well why his work is conceptually very strong, unique, and boundry pushing. In my own words, Jose's work has balls (bollocks, sack, guts, whatever you want to call it), history, and a uniqueness to it. In a world full of murakami, hirst and koons wanna be's, Jose's work is a breath of fresh air. Imo he outshines even those guys in a sense that he is still not diluted by his own fame. There is a honesty to his work, you can feel the paintings emitting emotion as you stand in front of them. To me, that is why he will be remembered and why his work is so polarizing.
