Nick Walker - Show - BRP - 28th May, by bullet on May 29, 2009 0:58:42 GMT 1, people accepted that as a print and spent money on it, does anyone know what it actually means, nope doubt it very much. Just a pretty-ish picture Can you explain 10% of the art created in the 20th century, NO. Your digging yourself into a hole, give it a rest.
people get confused between art and street art.

If i want to talk colours and how good the girl looks then i will be off to the new forum, come on silky dear.... chop chop

Nick Walker - Show - BRP - 28th May, by bullet on May 29, 2009 1:11:17 GMT 1, a big difference. street art is about instant subversive messages, clever interaction with its surroundings, a voice on the walls from the people, a piece which makes you sit up and take notice, a piece that makes you laugh...
art in its true form on the other hand is all about what you want it to be or a piece which is painted to look good in a style - like a good portrait, a well painted landscape or a beautiful sunset or an image of a girl with guns sticking out of her head.

Nick Walker - Show - BRP - 28th May, by grantb on May 29, 2009 1:19:53 GMT 1, the difference is nothing really,
just when something is put/done in the street and another person sees it as a work of art.
other then that the show isnt street art, its just art....but yer nick is a street artist.

Nick Walker - Show - BRP - 28th May, by Heavyconsumer on May 29, 2009 2:02:48 GMT 1, a big difference. street art is about instant subversive messages, clever interaction with its surroundings, a voice on the walls from the people, a piece which makes you sit up and take notice, a piece that makes you laugh...art in its true form on the other hand is all about what you want it to be or a piece which is painted to look good in a style - like a good portrait, a well painted landscape or a beautiful sunset or an image of a girl with guns sticking out of her head.
Why is it? Because you say so?
What a pathetic distinction to make! That street art cannot possible be "art in it's true form." What a load of utter crap!
I know you think you're right on this matter, but I couldn't disagree more. If a street artist wants to paint a sunset or portrait on a wall on the corner of Portobello Rd, it's no less worthy of discussion or merit as "street art" than an anti-war or anti-corporate (or any other brand of political) message for the people. It happens that Banksy uses his art to comment on the world we live in, and this forum is dedicated to him, because he's captured our imagination/attention. That doesn't mean that all street art must conform to the same guidelines that Banksy employs in his art to be worthy of a mention. It also doesn't mean we can't or shouldn't be free to discuss other art related (or not) topics here without you always asking "but does anyone understand what it means?" The point is that it bothers you that YOU can't find meaning in some art, not that the rest of us are misguided, deluded or ignorant somehow.
As it happens, I ain't into most of what Mr Walker has put out there over the past year or so, but that doesn't mean it's all crap because there's no clear message in it. It just doesn't float my boat (or yours by the sound of it). I'm waiting for him to produce another pretty picture that looks spectacular, like LTS, or come up with another excellent theme, like TMA, because I know he can pull some great work out the bag which does push my buttons. I don't give a toss how it's categorized though. Why should it matter? I can tell you that down here in Brazil, the only reason a lot of street artists get into it in the first place is/was because it's the only way they think they can get there art seen by people, not necessarily because it's counter-cultural or subversive in some way (which it may or may not be).
Of course, you could try starting your own forum for like-minded people. Wait! You did already right? The Art-Flipper or something like that. What's up with that? No-one came to talk to you there? The world's gone mad, clearly! ;D

Nick Walker - Show - BRP - 28th May, by amsterdam9697 on May 29, 2009 2:22:25 GMT 1, From what I can tell, JBoy has been wrong about pretty much everything in this thread. First, he was WAAAY off on both the ed. sizes and prices. No need to argue, that's a fact. Then, completely off-base on what prints would be available, etc. etc. etc...
... and finally, Jboy, it's "fringe benefits" not "french benefits." ;D ;D ;D

i never mentioned edition or size, i just mentioned BRP would be wanting to bleed this for all its worth and by releasing some cheaply printed material and cheaply made originals they have achieved this.
infact the edition size was not massive as was stated on here as that was bulls**t about a large edition size for cheap.... yep, well done there.

Nick Walker - Show - BRP - 28th May, by amsterdam9697 on May 29, 2009 8:29:27 GMT 1, I quite like the dude rowing the boat, but dont get the ape bit. Why is there an ape there? huh?
Don't you think the Apish Ape is kinda like his tag? I guess I could imagine see something similar from a certain artist but in place of the Ape would be the Banksy tag... Or, is the Ape to NW as the Rat is to Banksy? S**t, now I'm all confused
That would be the print I would pick of the 2, but I haven't heard any updates about the overseas lottery... I'm thinking they set aside 10 for the overseas collectors, which would leave 5 for NW, archives, etc... Again, no idea but if anyone has any updates, hook a brother up
