What's the best tape to use in framing?, by AoT Framing on May 25, 2020 6:51:39 GMT 1, The framer have a 3 month waiting time Another framer uses P90 tape, is that also fine? Or is this one a lot better I only use the best full conservation materials and have a current turnaround time of usually less than a fortnight. T-hinging is the method favoured by most reputable framers. Water gummed acid free tape secured with 2 T hinges grabbing only 5mm of the print is what you should be aiming to do. www.aotframing.com

What's the best tape to use in framing?, by iamzero on May 25, 2020 10:47:11 GMT 1, P90 has its uses but hinging isn’t really one of them in my experience. It needs to be burnished really well to stick.

What's the best tape to use in framing?, by dunkers on May 25, 2020 12:08:49 GMT 1, I’ll ask here rather than start a new thread since it’s tape related.
I float framed a low value print of mine several months ago and used pass through hinges with gummed paper hinging tape. Two hinges near the top and two near the bottom, fixed to the undermount (no foam core shadow gap). Ive now decided that the print would look better with a window mount. To reframe this, should I remove the four hinges and refix the print with t hinges at the top only, or am I better just to leave the print attached to the undermount with the existing hinges?

What's the best tape to use in framing?, by Spider Joe on Jun 4, 2020 12:46:53 GMT 1, Hi everyone,
I have a hinge tape question (that has been asked many times before, I know).
I have artwork with my framer and I'm undecided on which hinge tape to use - I have done plenty of research but was wondering if anyone has any reason why I should or shouldn't use the below two hinging tapes for float mounting artwork. Both activated using de ironised water.
RAG Hinging Tape Gummed Museum quality (UK Industrial Tapes)
or
Lineco Hayaku Japanese Hinging Paper (gummed tape)
Thanks in advance

Hi, thanks.
Is one better than the other? My framer prefers the cotton rag.

What's the best tape to use in framing?, by Schrödinger's Chat on Oct 16, 2020 8:54:30 GMT 1, Okay, I need some help/advice on how to remove masking tape without damaging these Postcards.
I have two Kate Postcards that I bought framed years ago, I've just popped the frame open and seen how they are taped in place. Now that they are worth a few quid I want to remove as carefully as I can.
Any advice on how best to do that?
If it proves to hard I'll just seal it up and enjoy it for what it is on my wall.
Thanks

Thanks i used a hair dryer before on a very low heat setting to soften the tape and a brand new Stanley blade to slide underneath if that makes sense? Slowly slowly!

What's the best tape to use in framing?, by avec art on Oct 16, 2020 9:13:12 GMT 1, if archival materials were used, then shouldn't a damp paintbrush be able de stick the glue and gradually lift it, while drying any dampness behind you using kitchen roll

Thanks for the advice but I think it's very unlikely its archival materials.

I would buy some zest it and give that a try, it works miracles. I was talking about it with atom gallery here about a week ago. I've used it on all sorts of tape, but not masking tape. Don't think it would be a problem though as masking tape is quite absorbent.

What's the best tape to use in framing?, by iamzero on Oct 16, 2020 9:30:34 GMT 1, Agreed with above. Zest It is great. It darkens the area a little which is worrying at first but it dries out.

What's the best tape to use in framing?, by Schrödinger's Chat on Oct 21, 2020 11:50:19 GMT 1, Thanks for the tip to use zest-it, I have removed the glue from the Postcards and it was so satisfying that I'm now removing gluey labels from everything in my house!!!

What's the best tape to use in framing?, by bumix on Oct 26, 2020 22:59:47 GMT 1, I bought a framed print and it was advertised as mounted with an archival tape that can be easily removed with a bit of water, the surprise came with more details: the framer used self-adhesive acid-free linen tape, ph7, acrylic adhesive water-based. And it seems to only be removable by carefully peeling it off. And there are 15-20 large stripes used. How bad is this? Do I need to replace it as aging will make it more difficult to remove?

What's the best tape to use in framing?, by artzzzy on Mar 7, 2021 10:08:50 GMT 1, Hi guys,
I’d like to ask you for advice about removing tape from the back of a print.
I bought this print floated in a frame, but it was loose inside the frame when I bought it (I guess the tape on the back dried off or something).
So I basically opened the frame and removed it.
Currently there’s tape at the four corners on the back of the print.
I’m debating whether I should attempt to remove it or just keep it the way it is to not risk making the situation worse.
I’ll upload some pics (once I discover how to do that) to better explain the situation.
Thanks in advance for your advise
Edit: not sure how to add photos here.. so I’m sharing a link from my googlephoto Hope this works

This stuff is amazing and I always recommend it. Just apply with brush and wait a few minutes and the tape should remove easily. Test it on a small area of the print first, but I've never had any problems with it. It looks like it will stain the paper, but once it dries it vanishes.

Ebay and amazon sell it normally and probably cheaper than buying direct
