Shepard Fairey - Soup Can II, by graffoto on Jun 10, 2009 9:01:46 GMT 1, Pulled at $500 too last night - made my evening. Well done to those who got in early According to the obey forum 500 was listed on newsletter as price so any thing under Was a bargain. These will fly now - still a great price when you compare to some POW prices For lesser artists. The colourway in this is special and its the nearest I'll get to a warhol soup can But shepard is todays equivalent so I can't wait to get it up on th wall.
Cheers to Ross for the heads up - where did you hear from? Was it the newsleter?
That's my art budget blown for a bit - hope nothing else comes along.

the time the newsletter was received the price had already increased. i first found out about the release through arrested motion's twitter. let's just say i've been keeping a close eye on iconoclast since may & i just happened to be at the computer at the right time.

I'm not saying he's as big but what with his work being snapped up by major museums foillowing obama - we should watch this space
We does work in a similar way though i reckon
- he churns prints out as fast and in many versions and colourways factory style - and he has his own group of other artists he works with repeatedly
- his images also follow repetative themes and styles like warhols and he has a limited palete
The obama image is as iconic as warhols portraits i recokon - it spurned enough copies and imitations.
BUT he needs to stop some of the lower quality images coming out though - i think he needs some quality control
love this soup can though

I would say he is more today's version of Warhol. Certainly not his equivalent.

I agree VERSION may be a better word - as i said above thats how i meant it - not that he is as talented or will be as famous - just he is similar in many ways

This Green version is much nicer looking than what I anticipated from the small tease picture from a few weeks ago. I purchased the original version from Icono back in the day and am very excited they have produced these 3 colors as well, the set of 4 will look brilliant together

Shepard Fairey - Soup Can II, by bonesy on Jun 10, 2009 12:34:56 GMT 1, I did take them up on the offer. It was worth the premium for the matching numbers (though I typically dont care about that sort of thing) and also as I figured Id end up missing out on the lower opening price on atleast one of the 3.
