Antony Micallef - Lazarides - 25th Sept, by Harveyn on Sept 25, 2009 13:11:52 GMT 1, Dark and depressing. Funny my wife says that about the music I listen to.
At times life is like that and it is not a bad thing to have something be it art or music create that feeling of melancholy. In fact it is at times comforting or least it makes you feel alive.

Antony Micallef - Lazarides - 25th Sept, by trasbash on Sept 25, 2009 13:12:48 GMT 1, Gonna visit today. Can't wait. Glad to hear the mans back on form as up until now, for me his most stunning pieces are still the oldies such as dirty deluxe and 21st century love. They just seem far more iconic than anything produced since. Hope to find a new fave.

Antony Micallef - Lazarides - 25th Sept, by G-Man on Sept 25, 2009 13:15:51 GMT 1, Just find his work is getting a bit too dark and depressing I guess some people like that sort of thing, but I just dont think I could live with it hung on the wall, and had to look at it everyday
I am with you on this one Silky
I appreciate his work as amazing but wouldnt want it on my walls for the same reason as you

Antony Micallef - Lazarides - 25th Sept, by adewilliams on Sept 25, 2009 13:22:27 GMT 1, I'm afraid I was disappointed. He must work very fast and in a pretty cluttered studio, some of the pieces have great big foot prints on them - if every brush stroke is so vital to the overall painting. How could standing on it be a good idea?
I know AM has awesome painting skills but this show doesn't do it for me. Ho hum

They do have some strong messages behind them in a similar way to Banksy's work, its just I dont think I would want to be surrounded by them when I wake up in the morning

Antony Micallef - Lazarides - 25th Sept, by Richard on Sept 25, 2009 13:23:52 GMT 1, Some of the larger (expensive) pieces are fantastic...but some of the cheaper ones are crap IMO.
Is anyone on here going to own up to having purchased a piece?
Black Kiss, Untitled 2 and Self Portarait 2 are my favourite pieces...

the cheapest pieces were in fact, for me some of the best, one head study and 'a small portrait...' were outstanding lovely pieces

Antony Micallef - Lazarides - 25th Sept, by Curley on Sept 25, 2009 13:36:39 GMT 1, AM has produced some amazing pieces for all price ranges. If you have ยฃ30k++ you can be the proud owner of a stunningly executed original on canvas. On the other hand, if you have a smaller budget of a few thousand you are also spoilt for choice on some amazing small originals. Laz has been "verbally abused" across the forums in the past for only selling 'high prices art to high profile clients' but now we can see there is art for all budgets and he is now getting (wrongly) accused of selling cheap art. The show had some truly amazing pieces spanning all of the price ranges and for that, I stand and applaud AM and Laz for putting on a great show, with quality art at fair prices. . good post zippster and nice to see you last night I agree that AM and Laz should be applauded for the price change - a very brave move and one alot of more mainstream galleries wouldn't do
agreed, and good to see lots of you out last night

Antony Micallef - Lazarides - 25th Sept, by nex on Sept 25, 2009 13:51:10 GMT 1, well lets think about this...what were the sizes of those pieces? Were there any anywhere near that size in this show? No? Where is the world economy at the moment, as compared to Mic's last show? I think they've sat down thought what is the best way to sell this show and altered the prices accordingly.

Antony Micallef - Lazarides - 25th Sept, by monkeyballs on Sept 26, 2009 21:24:56 GMT 1, I thought that no one was called Ralph these days, how old did Ralph look? Its a bit like running into an Alfonse, you might meet a kindly old soul, but very very rarely anyone under 50.
I want to meet Ralph, in order to say 'hello Ralph, I thought that name might be dead, yet here you are carrying the moniker for all the elderly Ralph's, I sure hope they know what you're doing for them, like some sort of modern monument to the name, parading around London, may god bless you'.
