Hirst Observer competition - any winners?, by cashman on May 28, 2009 2:23:11 GMT 1, If a percentage of future sales have to go to Hirst then you don't really own it I guess. Clever swine that Hirst chap. Basically he has recruited the 'winner' to sell it on his behalf. Anyway - good luck to all of us that entered.
Its called resale rights and applies to 95% of the artists out there including Banksy.....although it only applies to originals

A lot of times benefit pieces such as this will include a clause about how you have to offer it back to artists the gallery first. I mean I wouldn't mind winning this, but it would be weird knowing I have this thing that's essentially worth more than my house, but not really worth much to me because of that. And I imagine you'd owe a lot of tax on it, I guess it's value would be considered income?

As it's a competition prize you wouldn't be liable for any tax

Hirst Observer competition - any winners?, by sand on May 28, 2009 11:31:42 GMT 1, Hope someone from here wins something...hopefully not all winners have been contacted yet...
Funny how someone who won a print on the money saving expert forum is already asking how much it is worth...wouldn't be surprised to see a few end up on ebay!

Hirst Observer competition - any winners?, by bert on May 28, 2009 12:08:02 GMT 1, To be honest, if I'd bothered entering and had won, it would have been to flip it for ยฃยฃยฃ. I imagine about 95% of entrants would have been the same. I'm sure a few of the prints will be on the bay.

Cool, here in the US you're *supposed* to pay tax on any *winnings*
Hell, I'd be asking too, you and nobody else would have answered all 20 questions if it were worthless.

Hirst Observer competition - any winners?, by weeble on May 28, 2009 22:55:59 GMT 1, I once used to work for magazine publishers as a designer. The company asked me to do a spread for a competition to win a 'brand new Aston Martin DB7'. We did a photoshoot with it at a grand manor, sexy model and everything. Thing is, it was the boss' own DB7. Competition ran for a month - hundreds of entires but there was no way the MD was ever gonna give away his DB7! lol. So they fixed it. Felt terrible for even taking part!! Hope that crap doesn't generally happen... lol.

Hirst Observer competition - any winners?, by kennas on May 30, 2009 15:57:34 GMT 1, ;DIt sounded like a horrible little time waster! Good Luck to those who entered though! I for one could not be asked! The questions were stupid and difficult and having to read up on 'The Doors' blog (who IMO make crap music) - was a piss take. I actually quite enjoyed it, although admittedly I wouldn't have been able to answer most questions without the help of others on here and moneysavingexpert. It took about 5 minutes each day (so not really a time waster) and gives you the chance to own something I otherwise wouldn't be able to afford. Good luck everyone; I have my fingers crossed for Kennas
Cheers mate, no joy here though. I hacve decided as i didn't win anything it must have been a fix!!!
