Josh Keyes - Scorch - Flutter, by mcnuts on Mar 29, 2009 21:20:23 GMT 1, no hype here, i just like the stuff. I have been on a list since Sept 2007 with still not a sniff and prices where cheap-ish $900 USD for a small piece on wood panel. With prices going up, I am sure when my number is up, I wont be able to afford. Ahhh well such is life.
i do like that scorch 1. i'm not one for lists but what are rough prices of his work? It's hard to say lee. a few months back you'd be talking about $2-3k. As these tend to fall into true collectors hands they rarely hit the secondary. It's also quite difficult as the artist is growing in a down market. All's I know is by the time my number comes up, the price maybe too high. I'm not trying to over-hype Josh (I am biased) but if this guy doesn't figure in MoMA in the next few years, I'd be shocked.

I agree.. I've been waiting for years and looks like I will not have the chance to buy work until late 2010 or 2011. He will definitely have a BIG showcase somewhere like MOMA or MOMA itself. amazing new images. J is getting better by the minute.

Well then I can see why there is a list unless you are talking about print prices. If those are for originals, i'd be happy to pay more than that for the shark one. I've seen much of his work and like some of it a lot. The one with the white shark's dorsal fin burning oil is one that I would love to own. If someone here has that piece and would consider selling, please PM me. if not, another bus will come along in 15 minutes.
>>>. I have been on a list since Sept 2007 with still not a sniff a<<<
That's somewhat remarkable to me as one would think a pretty clear secondary market would form like any other high demand artist. You've been on there for 18 months for an artist whose originals cost less than $5k? I'm failing to understand the logic behind this.

The reasoning behind this is Josh Keyes had his prices fixed since he was much more of a small time artist up until about this show. Meaning originals from source were still extremely cheap (as someone mentioned 2-5k) this garnered so much interest that the waiting lists at the two galleries who represent him became over-extended, at times they were not even taking more names.
I think the lists will decrease and many members will be deleted as the prices increase, as members have been saying many will not be able to afford and will get passed up.
Josh Keyes is one of the most interesting artists from this movement, but I think to say us seeing him at MoMA in a few years is a little much, It is the top of the line for contemporary artists and we have to consider Banksy hasn't even got there and surely he would make it first as well as Os Gemeos, Neate, Micallef

Josh Keyes - Scorch - Flutter, by ecb on Mar 30, 2009 2:03:36 GMT 1, Man, I got on the list in March-08 and was hoping for a purchase opportunity sometime in 2010. Now I'm thinking 2014-2015. I think I'll need a couple promotions before then though.
