Banksy Stop and Search Print, by beenrhymin on Jan 21, 2016 18:42:42 GMT 1, Hammer was £12k, but don't forget with fees it amounted to £15,840. ofcourse, otherwise i would have kept bidding. My point being rather than pay the house that much, i would settle somewhere in between with a private. but i dont pay vat so it would have been 15,625.... which i thought was too much. as i said in mine thread, i would pay near that price... keep in mind the seller walked away with 12GBP -seller's commission. hence why its worthwhile for galleries and privates to transact directly sometimes... in a perfect system i would pay less than todays result, but the seller would net more than todays seller... win-win. only trade-off is not having the house's guarantee of authenticity, but usually all is fine.

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by Black Apple Art on Feb 15, 2016 18:13:09 GMT 1, Since a bay link can't be posted, I would assume posting an item number should be perfectly ok. Definitely not mine being from Germany but seemed like a good piece with COA and rare to see one in an actual auction format and not a ridiculous Buy It Now. #331775888747

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by Poster Bob on Feb 15, 2016 18:16:27 GMT 1, I think that if people wanted to search Ebay they'd search Ebay and that this section should be reserved for Auction House sales but I'm sure a mod can state whatever the rules are. You should also note that the seller is selling a Trolley print WITHOUT the coa, and that the COA is registered to someone else, whom he can't get in touch with. Good luck with that. So if someone buys this and it's not legitimate, we know in which direction to wag our finger.

People can also search Bonhams, Sotheby's, Paddle 8 and numerous others on their own as well but as this place is here to "inform" I can't see the reasoning behind the targeted prejudice against Ebay alone. But happy to follow the rules.
That aside, seller has 100% feedback since 07. This piece is said to have COA in hand and bringing an available piece to light is a far cry from an endorsement of authenticity or condition. Due diligence should be done on any purchase from any source.

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by Poster Bob on Feb 15, 2016 18:54:57 GMT 1, I'd think that due diligence should be required when advertising sales like you are currently doing. If something is very off with one print why advocate bidding on the second and taking a massive risk? I've often heard that you must "buy the seller" before buying the work. In this case I'd happily walk away and buy from a reputable source.

Been here long before the "ebay link" rule and I didn't see any issue then. Funny thing is Banksy Ebay items and other links to banksy items for sale were actually automatically scrolling where the banners now are and part of the forum not too long ago. Wasn't an issue then either.
That aside, my comment was towards POSTERBOB's suggestion that someone making the community aware of an item at auction is now somehow responsible for anyone pursuing the item and its results.
While he may see a seller listing another item without a COA and clearly stating such, which is often done here as well, as a disqualifying factor, I don't think the entire community here should have this qualification forced on them as well. We all have our own methods and views on what items for sale are possibly pursuable or not. I think having a "community" here and them chiming in on thoughts and views to give everyone all sides of the equation is what a forum should be all about. Not censoring the subject matter entirely.
Moving on...

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by 11 on Feb 15, 2016 20:15:41 GMT 1, I've been here since '11 (I was 5 just last week ) and theres always been the rule about keeping eBay links away from the forum.
We do allow links when someone wants to warn or challenge something but as Dappy said - if people were popping up eBay links all the time it would be mental.
wrt the S&S, it is a bid rather than a buy so it could be suggested that if people want to publicise that they might be the owner or have one themselves and therefore have a vested interest in it seeing it achieve the best price possible
If someone wanted to publicise it as they knew someone was desperately looking then wouldn't they tell the person discreetly so said person could get it for the best possible price an without drawing so much attention to it
eBay links appear at the top of the sales threads - these are selected at random from pre-specified search criteria so other than matching the keywords there is no control on what is and isn't displayed there and therefore one person cant be accused of manipulation.

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by Coach on Feb 15, 2016 20:39:13 GMT 1, I remember the days before the ban on eBay links. I also didn't see a problem with them. But that's mainly due to my laziness in not wanting to trawl through eBay. It was quite handy to know what people were selling there. Most people were restrained, posting the link when it went up, and perhaps when it was close to finishing. I'd be happy to hand them back tbh. But I appreciate I'm probably in a minority.

Maybe the rule was more unspoken and not so heavily enforced as they used to be posted when something of interest was for auction and I don't remember them being deleted by mods. Again I never saw it as an issue but found it more of a "headsup". Of course just an opinion.
As far as the "vested interest" argument or "what could be suggested", that could be said with any auction item including Bonhams, Sotheby's ect ect and the inherent possible result of a higher auction price by people being aware of the item should not be the reason for banning it. If the item receives a higher price it is because someone wanted to pay that price regardless of how they became aware of the auction. If there might be shill bidding ect, restricting it here won't stop that either. Of course most owning Banksy works like seeing higher and higher auction results as time goes on but I highly doubt restricting Ebay listings here will have any effect on the continued price increases.
Just a discussion here... I'm happy w the forum and continually enjoy it even though it is an entirely different animal then it was years ago.

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by Deleted on Feb 15, 2016 21:46:57 GMT 1, We debate a lot here don't we.
I didn't mind the the links, i am not one of those people that does much searching for stuff, so if i see a link for something for sale that appeals to me, then its a nice bonus.
I don't like the newish rules much, and i dislike the hourly discussions about the interpretation of them more.
A good 10% of what i read here seems to be about the rules, but then hey, that leaves 90% right? :-)
