Banksy Stop and Search Print, by BK83 on Dec 18, 2007 1:36:43 GMT 1, First off, I missed the whole fucking hoopla ( as usual!) I give it a 5 out of 10. anyone else? A lot of people purchased it obviously, since it has sold out, but was your purchase Banksy based, image based or flip based? There are no wrong answers here.... BTW if someone did purchase purely for flipping please don't beg the shit out of them. That's really getting old and to be honest it's a bit petty.

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by jam on Dec 18, 2007 2:08:37 GMT 1, I like the image very much. I appreciate the loss of innocence imagery and encroaching security on society, reminds me of other street pieces like the CCTV Cameras. I was also thrilled to see them do a non-LA print. It reminds me more of something you would see on the street as opposed to the Applause, Trolleys, etc. Its a relevant image with the undertones a-la Banksy that we have all grown to love... I rate it quite high myself.
PS: I must say that I was surprised to see such care taken with the feet... Mr. B must have seen some of the posts on here about that!

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by spirit on Dec 18, 2007 2:24:35 GMT 1, I like it because it was unexpected (until very recently), stylistically it's a bit different, it's a fairly limited run and I think the theme really fits with the ghetto being in Palestine. I don't think it's his best by any means but I do think it's a grower.

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by dmandpenfold on Dec 18, 2007 3:28:05 GMT 1, top image, different style, much finer work, but the imagery/sentiment is still banksy. On my first look i wasnt so sure about the move from the more rugged stencil style, but it gets better everytime i look at it, I reckon it'll be a classic, it beats last years offering of flags.
agree with jam...nice feet

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by Filipino Box Spring Hog on Dec 18, 2007 6:32:57 GMT 1, It is not exactly new - similar image can be seen - original Banksy street art - just do a google image of Stop and Search - there are a couple of stencils to be seen.
I may be in the minority but, this to me, is one of Banksy's finest prints. Big Brother and his minions are dangerous to our liberties and it is an increasingly dangerous world we live in - it is an important and timely commentary - following the yellow brick road is dangerous these days...if we don't take our freedom from unnecessary gov't interference seriously, we will end up a collective someone we no longer recognize - I'm not saying anarchy is the answer but, for God's sake - wake the fuck up people and take a stand for what is yours - Your property, Your rights, Your body, Your thoughts, Your dreams - don't let them take the you from you...ok, it's late and I'm pissed off a bit ...
wish I could have managed to get a buy button that worked for this one!

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by RBK on Dec 18, 2007 7:00:22 GMT 1, I think its a great print and one that will always recall SG being in Bethlehem with all the security/safety measures we now live with more and more on a daily basis.
It is another strong image by Banksy and his biting commentary in accomplished in a playful way. Banksy's style seems to definitely be evolving and oh yeah... the feet look pretty decent for once!

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by monstris on Dec 18, 2007 9:30:03 GMT 1, First off, I missed the whole f**king hoopla ( as usual!) I give it a 5 out of 10. anyone else? A lot of people purchased it obviously, since it has sold out, but was your purchase Banksy based, image based or flip based? There are no wrong answers here.... BTW if someone did purchase purely for flipping please don't beg the s**t out of them. That's really getting old and to be honest it's a bit petty.
Got nowt against anyone who bought ONE and fancied a bit of Christmas cash...that's just clever...we've all had to do that at some point. My grump is against people who buy three or four and make a living out of it.
As for the image, I've said elsewhere that the one in the window at SG Bethlehem is better. Grey background, blue gloves.
The meaning, as with most Banksy pieces, is pretty overt. The joke is visual but not particularly funny.
But what do I know. I let go of a Gangster Rat because I got fed up with staring at "POW" all the time.

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by Harveyn on Dec 18, 2007 9:58:05 GMT 1, Yeap....Really like this image and Banksy's continued move to finer stencil work. Quite surprising really as 95% of the comments on this thread are positive (irrespective of whether people got the print or not).
Not sure about "courting the pink pound". Although after reading that comment by POW it did bring a sense of humour to the piece that for me had gone unrecognized to that point.
I think for me the piece is less complex in its meaning than Trolleys yet more appealing (I have been extremely fortunate to score my 1st and 2nd Banksy print with the last two releases and I love them both).
To me it is a statement about the security conscious world we live in. The piece takes the opportunity to show it in a stark contrast to an innocent time that has long since gone. Might also be an attempt to drag us back to our own childhood innocence to reminisce about how the world can be a better place through the eyes of a child.
Or it could simply be making a comparison between the State and the "Wicked Witch of the West"
