Banksy Stop and Search Print, by corblimeylimey on Dec 18, 2007 12:22:56 GMT 1, is there any chance that Dorothy was drawn by someone else? some type of collaboration ?
Good chance I'd say, not just Dorothy but perhaps the whole thing, as I mentioned earlier the Bronze Rats, surely Banksy didn't make those, and Morons was just line work from a photograph.
What is generally original is the putting together of the works, the juxtaposition of Dorothy and security, the Van Gogh sales room with "I can't believe you morons actually buy this s**t", Applause is just a photo too (well a couple of photo's) but the final result is pure Banksy.

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by dave313perry on Dec 18, 2007 12:26:28 GMT 1, im not judging banksy - his work is brilliant as ever, as a whole more print process selection - and the content selection. - its all very manufactured and slick, dont you think??? You know like you mentioned with the GIWTBB - hope its not like the coarse halftone of that - but i feel it will be. I was referring to Bongo's comment particularly. I too hope it's not like the coarse halftone of GIWTBB, it needn't be, just look at Applause, although some areas are most aren't.
Yeah - not to be too negative anyways!!! i dont want to come accross as a bitter sod! Banksy is still the main man and wipes the floor with 99% that he does! congrats to al that got one and intend on keeping it!

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by snakes on Dec 18, 2007 12:29:26 GMT 1, In case anyone is interested.... ? The gloves are nitrocellulose and commonly come in blue or purple They are prefered over latex as (a) they provide a much better barrier to HIV (the latex has fine holes that the virus can pass thro') and (b) they are kinder on the hands regarding allergies to either the rubber or the powder that can coat them. Fascinating I know
they dont leave white powder marks all down your trousers either!

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by BONGO on Dec 18, 2007 12:32:37 GMT 1, BONGO IN AGREEMENT UP TO A POINT - ART IS USUALLY DERIVATIVE , BUT WHAT MAKES ART UNIQUE IS THE RESULTING ASSEMBLAGE CREATED BY THE ARTIST.
DUCHAMPS URINAL IS A CASE IN POINT.
BONGO THINKS ITS NOT ESSENTIAL THAT AN ARTIST IS THE SOLE CONTRIBUTOR TO A WORK, BU THE ETHOS SHOULD COME THROUGH.
BONGO BELEIVES THAT BANKSY HAS ALWAYS BEEN ATTRACTIVE AS IT FOLLOWED THE MAXIM OF LESS IS MORE, MININAL MEANS EXPEDIENCY
BONGO KNOWS THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG , JUST OPINION
BUT BONGO DOES NOT THINK THIS FAIRLY UNSUBTLE JOKE WILL AGE WELL.
BONGO COULD WELL BE WRONG HOWEVER

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by top on Dec 18, 2007 12:56:27 GMT 1, ..seems like 'dove' would have been a far better print choice..
a lot of the prints for sale at the Ghetto look rushed to me..
I think the idea behind the whole thing is truly inspiring and an eye opener for those with blinkers on.
..good to know the money is going to be well spent tho.. I think we need to view the artists as more 'on show doing the humanity thing', rather than trying to wow us with their latest art creations.
..they have raised a pretty penny for those in dire need..thats what needs to be highlighted
To all those who bought from the show and are happy with their purchase..I bet at some point when you look at the art you bought (bless ya cottons'),at some point, you will realise that you played your part too..

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by Gentle Mental on Dec 18, 2007 13:13:47 GMT 1, it's a departure from his usual style. it's not the first time he does it.
he's got lots of styles on his site. Anything to get the story across the way he wants it.
i think the reason for this style just so the contrast between the fairytale feel and the harsh reality of the situation is more pronounced.
The humour may be crude, but i think it's done half-jokingly (if at all).
fairytales, imagination, people with dreams of walking up the yellow brick road, of finding their true homes do get F*** in the arse over there.
so i like it. and i really want one. but the country that i'm in, had its web access to the world go down at the exact same hour it was released...

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by lazydog on Dec 18, 2007 13:28:00 GMT 1, Personally, I would have loved one of the stenciled images like the Donkey at the checkpoint or the rat with the catapult. IMO stronger images and classics for me.

Yes the Catapult Rat would have been good too, but I can understand why he didn't do it as I thought the Rat prints were done and dusted.

I actually would have freaked out for a new rat. Imagine the surprise of seeing that pop up. Would have also lent itself to Banksy being able to do some quick and easy "hand-touches" that everyone else seemed to contribute to their stuff for SG.
Plus whenever I would have looked at it, it would remind me of the rat taking aim at the wall. When I look at Stop and Search I think of the LA show or the Glastonbury piece from the summer.

I think its a great print and the detail is brilliant compared to say the smudge which is bomb hugger.

nope no bitterness here either - i still want the print at cost but im still unsure wether it will be a succesful print - and is a different style from his earlier work. its still a grade above anyone else out there, but we only expect the best from Mr B.
i discussed this with Cbl and a couple other previously and my opinion remains the same - if i get one, and its printed poorly then i would move it on at cost to a forum member, iv been helped out similarly by members in the past

I often believe it works the other way 'round. People buy it who don't really like it and then publicly attempt to justify why so they don't feel like an arse. Or so they can try to "help" its value when they decide to resell it.
I also believe that some people would have hit the Buy button and paid even if the image of the print hadn't loaded yet or got an error. I can understand that, too.
With this print, though, I can see why some enjoy it. They get to have the topic that Banksy has been mostly pushing all year in his street work in print form. Personally, I like his prints normally because they differ from the street stuff. He draws a line between his "outdoor" and "indoor" work.
I basketed one and passed it on to someone because I just couldn't pull the trigger. Can't wait to see what he tells me when I ask to see how it looks on his wall in a few months. Hopefully he hits me up with some good pics.
