Banksy • Flag GOLD, by morrissey1 on Dec 17, 2007 1:27:53 GMT 1, im surprised that anyone would be critical of snakes for asking for this print.....I don't think that making a request for something you can't physically get on your own is going to increase "flipping".....not everyone can get to Bethlehem, and for those who can't/don't, are they just supposed to never get the print they want because they couldn't make it there? No, of course not. Some flipping is absurd, blatant and ugly, but occassionally it does serve a purpose, and it does help some of us out who cant get certain things.....IMO Its verbal Mo that wants this print, not me. . If they really weant this print that much i would suggest buying last years one and framing it under 'gold irridium' coated glass. (although dont quote me for costs).
yeah, i caught my mistake with names right away and corrected it.....

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by snakes on Dec 17, 2007 1:30:34 GMT 1, Just out of interest, out of how many of the people who have been to the ghetto how many stayed in Palestine? I may be wrong but my guess is that most people flew out on an Israeli / or Israeli sponsored airline, stayed in Israeli hotels and spent most of their spenders in Israel. So other than buying their one Banksy print of which the proceeds go to Palestinian causes, it seems to me that it is Israel that is benefiting the most from the Ghetto tourists! Ps. I am just an innocent by stander who watches and listens, i support neither side (just incase mossad are monitoring this thread). Excellent point Snakes. I thought about that. El Al airlines are Israeli, so they will have picked up a few quid from this as will the other aspects of the tourist industry. At least some money will go to the Palestinian kids though. However, from what I was told, Banksy and those involved were not just seeking to raise money, but also awareness of the situation over there.
Unfortunately Stuey there are many blinkered people in this world who choose to see only what they want to see.
How many would have gone to the Ghetto in Bethlehem if there was not that great big carrot dangled (Banksy prints) to lead them there?
I would say maybe 112 + twenty something odd less unfortunately!

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by verbalkint on Dec 17, 2007 1:56:18 GMT 1, i would think twice about going, only because of the dickhead isreali security forces who like nothing more than taking pot shots at people How about the british aid worker who went there to teach children, Some israeli soldiers started shooting at a bunch of 5 to 10 year olds playing on a dirt mound so the british guy went to get them out of the way and they shot him in the head. Or how about the isreali conscript who was dishonourably discharged because he reported his commanding officer. A 12 year old palasinian girl was returning from school and passed a checkpoint, she had a satchel on and the soldiers commanding officer told him to shoot her, when he refused saying she was an innocent child the officer took his rifle and shot her 17 times. The soldier made a massive incident out of it and told the foreign press, soldier was dishonourably discharged, the officer was discharged but never faced any discipline for what he did.
And lets not forget that hardline palestinians do not like westerners much either. Its all very well and good saying they are nice on the whole, they probably are, but i am realistic enough to know that some of them would see me as their enemy.
On the whole i probably would not go even if i did have the time. Im just being honest

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by jam on Dec 17, 2007 2:15:41 GMT 1, verbalkint- I see where you are coming from with concerns of traveling over. I would love to have a Gold Flag as well, but I own a business too and with the time of year its impossible for me to get away for a day or two. I have been over in the past and understand the plight of the area, and I'd be willing to go again but it simply cannot be anytime soon. I had a couple people from that said they would go on my behalf if I paid the form air/accommodations for them to make the trip for me and they both messed me around some before pulling out. If you locate a couple people sensible and trustworthy that will go on your behalf let me know too as I would gladly pay someone to go for me too, as well as donating some extra to whatever charity POW designate as the recipient to the earnings form the Ghetto.

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by snakes on Dec 17, 2007 2:37:18 GMT 1, Verbal / Jam, i dont know this for sure but I am sure that someone on this forum may have links to Banksy or maybe the man himself has the odd sneaky look at the forum from time to time when he has nothing better to do. It may not work but why dont you not put out an offer to him for a copy of the gold flag for £5K or either with POW. That way the extra money that you are willing to pay for the print would go to their charity and not into any individuals pocket. What do you have to loose other than hearing either nothing or the word 'no', yet you could be set to gain along with the Ghetto's chartity of choice. Night all x

I thought of that and contacted POW about it on Ghetto day two. I had emailed explaining that due to work constraints I would not be able to make the show but I had been there in the past and understand and appreciate their efforts. I offered them substantially over asking price for a print and told them I would be happy to pay it knowing the charity would be the beneficiary over some friggen flipper. I got a message back there was nothing they could do and I could not buy a print unless I came over. I was also slightly miffed they could not give me the charity name so I could make an independent donation.... so I am back to offering someone here the trip and I will give extra to the charity once their name is publicized.

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by alsbabar on Dec 17, 2007 11:41:00 GMT 1, Jam - no chance of that happening, it will completely undermine the message and what everyone else who went, myself include, had to go through to get there.
If they allowed you to buy a Gold Flag, then what will that say about the Artist, POW, the message and the whole concept?

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by monstris on Dec 17, 2007 18:00:06 GMT 1, i have nothing againsed flippers snakes. Im not one, but i dont have the time to go to the middle east, 3 days away from my business in december would cost me about £20,000 so its worth me paying a flipper, and i would happily pay £5000 I'm not sure too many people will part with this, except for a few who made the journey with the sole purpose of flipping. It is a fantastic image, quite a limited run, and due to the hassle of getting one I think genuine Banksy fans will hang onto them. May not be too easy to get a replacement. Have you thought of asking someone to go out there for you?
I'm with Stu on this. Graeme went out on a sponsored trip and it was such a relief to see the sense of adventure on his face. You're not just getting a print, you're enriching someone's life.

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by verbalkint on Dec 18, 2007 6:25:05 GMT 1, its cool, i have already been offered 4.
I would still rather get one myself, but not everyone is in a position where we can just leave the country at the drop of a hat. Im working 20 hours a day right now as it is. I do detect a slight undertone of 'you didnt go so you dont deserve one'. If that is your honest opinion, if owning a gold flags has, as a pre requisit, the stipulation that you do a good deed, if the sum of your achievement in this field all year is to buy a fucking shish kebab in manger square and throwing a few dollars at palastinian kids then believe me, i deserve one more than you. And lets not pretend our goals are not one and the same. If it was not for the gold flags and the trollys special edition then the vast majority of you would not have gone, so lets not pretend you are on some sort of lets fuck the learned elders of zion trip, or that you just couldnt miss the opportunity to see the plight of the palestinians and sympathise, you went for the banksys, nothing more, nothing less. And you know what, that is totally cool, but we are not all students/unemployed/have flexible jobs/can take holidays/have passports/have the money to go so lets have no more of this, if you want one you should go out there.
Obviously those comments are not aimed at everyone who went, and im sure it was a fantastic experience, maybe you had an epiphany when you got there, but you went for the banksys.

and by the way Mr f**king know it all.. I met more than one person who made a massive effort to get out there to see the work on the walls, people who had no chance of affording a print after financing the trip. So maybe stop projecting your own failings onto others pal.
Respect to all those that made the effort ! ++
