Yes Banksy and the art was the cause, but in all honesty, the art becomes secondary, especially when I went to one of the refugee camps and met up with a work colleagues friend who is a volunteer worker out there, who showed me around, telling me of the situation and the plight/suffering of others. It puts in to context that the cost of a trolley is meaningless to them as they cannot comprehend such things - especially when some families live on a meal to meal basis.
So Verbank, while I respect your opinion and desire to own one - the Gold Flag will never ever mean as much to you as it could for any person who made the journey to buy one.

I was not 'slating the people who go out there' at all. I dont blame them for going one little bit and the vast majority have some amazing stories to share, but you know for a fact that i was not slating everyone, you just said it as it makes your argument seem more valid. And everyone in life deserves what they have got. you work for something, you pay for it, you deserve it. right? or would you say that is wrong too? As for the charity thing, i wasnt even fucking talking about that. that is the entire boards achievement, not mine, i do not claim any merit for doing that so dont you dare make out as if i am trying to be bob fucking geldof. and as for the auctions, you have no right at all to even discuss them as you donated nothing to them. The point i was making is we all feel for the plight of the palestinians, we all know that it is wrong and im sure if we could directly help then most people on these boards would (apart from you, you dont do charity do you?)

It may not work but why dont you not put out an offer to him for a copy of the gold flag for ยฃ5K or either with POW. That way the extra money that you are willing to pay for the print would go to their charity and not into any individuals pocket. What do you have to loose other than hearing either nothing or the word 'no', yet you could be set to gain along with the Ghetto's chartity of choice. Night all x I thought of that and contacted POW about it on Ghetto day two. I had emailed explaining that due to work constraints I would not be able to make the show but I had been there in the past and understand and appreciate their efforts. I offered them substantially over asking price for a print and told them I would be happy to pay it knowing the charity would be the beneficiary over some friggen flipper. I got a message back there was nothing they could do and I could not buy a print unless I came over.  I was also slightly miffed they could not give me the charity name so I could make an independent donation.... so I am back to offering someone here the trip and I will give extra to the charity once their name is publicized.
The charity hasn't been set up yet and at least one artist (a Palestinian) will be taking the funds from sales of his/her piece home.
Bethlehem is safe, Jericho is safe. The only hassle you'll get is from the odd shyster trying to sell you beads and keffiyeh for 150shekel. It's not as if you're being asked to travel to Tubah to get shot at by settlers or requested to find Gilad Shalit in Gaza.
As for spending money in Israel...wtf can you do when you're in a country where being born is a political statement. Live with it. And if you're pissed off, try to change it.
If you can make it, great. The experience is more valuable than any artwork you can pick up. If you can't, try to swing over AFTER the Ghetto. There are loads of drivers who'd be willing to take you around the walls for $20US. Any of us who've been over can give you numbers.

I understand what you are saying, but i think that if someone worked every bit of overtime that they could and saved up for 6 months to buy this print on the secondary market it would mean just as much to them as it meant to you

i dont think its a can of worms. if you want to sell it, fair play, it wil more that cover your costs to palestine and that, imho, was part of banksy's plan. see the place for yourself and if you cant really afford the trip, sell your print on your return and your costs are covered giving you a "free" trip to see the situation in palestine. brilliant imho.

i guess it goes down to motivations, i'm sure some ppl made the trip just to buy a print to flip others for the whole experience. only those selling know why they did it. I'm sure if/when someone sells one on ebay as opposed to a private deal, there will be ppl yelling flipper etc. I really dont care. What pisses me off is the 30 odd stop and search prints on ebay 1hr after prints dropped. Once the print - flag, trolley or otherwise - is in hand, ppl can do what they want. just my $0.02

If that is your honest opinion, if owning a gold flags has, as a pre requisit, the stipulation that you do a good deed, if the sum of your achievement in this field all year is to buy a f**king shish kebab in manger square and throwing a few dollars at palastinian kids then believe me, i deserve one more than you. And lets not pretend our goals are not one and the same. If it was not for the gold flags and the trollys special edition then the vast majority of you would not have gone, so lets not pretend you are on some sort of lets f**k the learned elders of zion trip, or that you just couldnt miss the opportunity to see the plight of the palestinians and sympathise, you went for the banksys, nothing more, nothing less.
