NICK WALKER SHOW LA!!!!, by Art-el on Feb 3, 2008 20:51:04 GMT 1, Loving the 'Vandal with plunger'
The exploding rat, a dig at a fellow Bristolian stencil artist or do I read too much into it.
By the way I havn't a clue, it's the 1st time I've seen it. If so come on Banksy this has taken stencil art to another dimension.
I'll take your brain to another dimension....sorry mdma flashback

NICK WALKER SHOW LA!!!!, by artstylee on Feb 3, 2008 22:16:04 GMT 1, In regards to ronamywg's post,
Yeah NW looks 18 but he's got two grown kids that were at the show. Think it's just his babyface making it look that way on the cover. In person his eyes show his age/experience.

NICK WALKER SHOW LA!!!!, by artstylee on Feb 3, 2008 22:19:57 GMT 1, Loving the 'Vandal with plunger' The exploding rat, a dig at a fellow Bristolian stencil artist or do I read too much into it. By the way I havn't a clue, it's the 1st time I've seen it. If so come on Banksy this has taken stencil art to another dimension. I'll take your brain to another dimension....sorry mdma flashback Funny Because the line "I'll take your brain to another dimension" is a lyric from a Keith Murray Song Called "the Rhyme" that oddly enough I was listening to in traffic on the way to the Nick Walker show.
I agree this Nick Walker has transcended the Graffitti/Street art idea and flawlessly expanded it into the fine art realm.
Didn't think about the exploding rat idea. (smart)
So:
1)Banksy does "FAME" work in LA the days before a show that is to feature a artist that UK forum members said POW held back. Releasing 1 Print in 3 Years
2) Local Bristol people NW's friends say that Nick Walker was paying his dues for 20 years. I don't believe the other famed UK street artists have been on the grind for 20 years (How could POW justify only put out 1 print in 3 years, from an artist who's so skilled/tallented from Banksy's home town)
(If you watch the way NW works he can accomplish alot quickly, (he understands exactly what he's trying to achieve through layering/composition etc.) so how on earth could there only be so few pieces available from an artists w/20 years of experience)
3) Banksy does the Caveman Piece and the two Girls watering lawns in LA around the show, A Day before the NW show opening night. Drawing more attention to LA/Nick Walker.
4) Watch Nick Walker freehanding the Highlights for the Moonalisa's face. Don't know someone w/tallent like that could stay hidden. The Mona Lisa stuff/monkey stuff can't possibly be all that he's was working on for that 3 year period. I'm implying he did alot more work under another name.
5) Work is great and print are already selling out quickly and going up in value Banksy style.
Regardless if Banksy and Nick Walker are from the same town, the subject matter and mastery of material application leads me to believe, Nick Walker is either a diamond in the rough... Hiding for 20 years, or this is Banksy's personal coming out party. Finally deciding to choose to receive direct recognition/praise for his art. Would be lame for his family name/lineage to have art history books write that Banksy was so innovational if the man Nick Walker was the one who should be receiving the credit for the work.
Banksy and NW are both going to use monkeys.
a Astronaut Monkey Blasting off into infinity?
and the Caveman Eating Food is the evolution of a Monkey into caveman w/food overflowing on his plate. Who do we know that's evolved and is extremely paid(eating well) from their work? Ahh,.... don't hate on the idea.
The most innovational thing an artist can do is successfully develop 2 seperate artistic identities. It's hard enough to build up one name let alone 2 different names/styles.
And the money/caveman/rats are just hints. Maybee they're nothing more than hints to remind the viewer to relate NW/his ideas to his hometown/Banksy.
Maybee it's just a Bristol thing, if you from Bristol apparently you relate to monkey's/cavemen and rats??? That doesn't make sense. I'm 85% convinced it's the same dude. And if it's not then either way Banksy really really wants to see Nick Walker do well. Given the fact that I prefer Nick Walkers work to Banksy's. Don't get on me. I appreciate what Banksy is doing for art. But I think that Mr. Walker just might have more staying power.
Some Hip Hop Artists (MF Doom/Ghostface/RZA etc.) take on other personas so the can justify flipping they're style in such a different way then there audience is used to. The audience is more likely to accept the artist's new works when they don't have a large body of prior works that they're expecting them to stay true to. If he's not Banksy indeed he's forcing Banksy to step his game up.

NICK WALKER SHOW LA!!!!, by cadence on Feb 3, 2008 23:13:57 GMT 1, NW isn't Banksy, but they are obviously very close friends. Can't wait to see the pieces again when I pickup my print.
For those of you looking for a Vandal poster, I do have one signed by Nick I may part/trade with since I have my Hollywood print to frame.

NICK WALKER SHOW LA!!!!, by artstylee on Feb 3, 2008 23:16:20 GMT 1, Just saw the Fame is a Basic Human Right, then A Well Fed Caveman piece, Then two little girls watering lawn,
Then saw Nick Walker had to little daughters there at the show.
Just wouldn't put it past Banksy to reinvent himself. Would be brilliant.
romanywg: I did read past post and your videos were great. Thanks for posting. Really cool, awesome editing.
Have you also video'd Banksy?
Some legit UK artist needs post that you know them both and they are seperate dudes.
Show me footage of the two in a room simultaneously and I'll believe you.
Otherwise there's far too many similarities in their work.
Further I think Banksy is to clever to just come to town to just do 3 stencils and bail. He's Allways thinking a step ahead. (Museum drop off stuff, Paris Hilton CD stuff) This could be a riddle and Banksy is Nick Walker.
Fame is a Basic Human Right. Could be phrasing he's chosen to justify blowing up as Nick Walker.
Banksy or not Art is great.
Further No Other Banksy Pieces have been spotted thoughout LA since the opening of the show last night. Gallery workers said that Nick was quite tired from perparing for the show. I guess it's contageous and Banksy it also too tired to go get up in LA some more once the show started.
Coincidence???

NICK WALKER SHOW LA!!!!, by todd on Feb 4, 2008 6:13:10 GMT 1, price list shows TMA print being $600. i paid $650. am i the only one who paid $650 for it ? anyone ?
in happier and more important news - i urge every single one of you with the time and possibility of seeing this show to get into the gallery and check it out. i haven't seen a group of work this impressive in a hell of a long time. actually it is one of my favorite shows i've ever seen. I just love the small details, brilliant concepts, and really big and bold feelings that even the smallest of the canvases convey.
killer killer stuff peops. thanks Nick. thanks folks at Carmichael.
i'm definitely goin back to check it out again.

NICK WALKER SHOW LA!!!!, by artstylee on Feb 4, 2008 7:08:39 GMT 1, I hope they're going to be paying 650 for the print in UK as well.
Didn't effect the way they sold out though. Sold out immediately(or as long as it took 50 people to fill out the form & pay).
Lots of great work. Loved the show. Can't wait to see what Mr. Walker does next.
I Wonder which BRP/LAZ/POW UK artist is going to show in LA next???
Nick Walker has set the stage for the next London/UK based artist to slide into the LA/Hollywood art market and do well.
It's going to be difficult for another UK artist to follow NW's show in LA. But it's got to force many UK artists to adjust their thinking about what they want to bring to LA next.
Get to work my United Kingdom Artists Buddies. Make it happen. Show us what you've got. Nick just forced all of you to work through many sleepless nights to catch up. Now Let's do work. Who's Next?
