Copyright / Hush - The queue rumours..., by bert on May 31, 2008 17:54:55 GMT 1, Still waiting for someone to offer me their Geisha red.
There are a few on ebay, including Dave's from the previous page.
Good thing about this scene is there is plenty of choice - I will be spending my money elsewhere.

Copyright / Hush - The queue rumours..., by veralynn on May 31, 2008 18:07:46 GMT 1, I actually have some sympathy with the Gallery in so far as you can't please all the people all the time but also think it's out of order to advertise goods for sale and people take the time and trouble to travel to 'guarantee' they get what they're after - it's a shite cliche but time is money so to get there and they're sold isn't great, I would've been mighty pissed off.
All the same its bloody scandalous that the Gallery are relieving people of ยฃ150 for a one way option of buying something they havent seen! I'm surprised that's legal - I'm sure it is. If only every business could manage their cashflow like that!
We are the architects of our own misery.

Copyright / Hush - The queue rumours..., by seenit on May 31, 2008 18:34:30 GMT 1, I went to the show and came up especially on the train from portsmouth . Queued 45 minutes after not getting there till quarter to 7pm and when we got in there were still many prints for sale and a few of the originals from both artist . The man who was ranting at the queue was 20 minutes before this so wierd , Anyway decided not to buy anything as my favourite two canvases were gone but then since when does anyone have to promise you anything?
I say great showing of art and a well spent day and night out in london . I reckon the ones moaning the most are probably the flippers themselves .

Copyright / Hush - The queue rumours..., by loupa on May 31, 2008 19:15:11 GMT 1, this is a very long thread now but I'll still add my tuppence worth. 1st i think there are some points being made that are just muddying the water, people can't bitch about the gallery inviting 400 people to the opening. I can't think of anyone who would invite exactly the right amount of people expecting every single one to turn up and stay all night. Its obviously a mute point. 2nd they are obviously not going to say to those who bought originals 'you can't have a print now cos we need to save them for people who are not our biggest customers but who may attend and then wish to buy'. I do think however that antony has shamelessly pimped this event so much he should have just behaved himself in the first place, stop ramming it down everyone's throats because obviously they are going to ram any shit goings on and complaints back down yours. 2ndly he appeared to have lied about knowing the aliases of Hush were different people, I think he even went as far to say one was abroad, may be wrong. That is stupid naive behaviour of someone in his position running a gallery desperately trying to pull in all the other artists and punters from this forum. He is obviously very immature and sadly I bet he keeps his job for now, because the owner is just sat looking at his sales records and not at this. Having said that the staff turnover at opus has been on a par with mcdonalds at times. I have known people who worked there who have nothing good to say at all so antony becareful of alienating anyone you may wish to ask for a job in the future.

I think it's well out of order wishing for someone to lose their job. It was their first show in London, and it was always going to be impossible to keep everybody happy. What can you do when people start queuing in the rain from 2am? People make mistakes, and i'm sure they'll learn from them.
Peace!

Copyright / Hush - The queue rumours..., by killerkellah on May 31, 2008 21:37:44 GMT 1, seems like there are no easy answers to this, no one can have anticipated the growth of this art scene and it appears that alot of the galleries are constantly playing catch up with regards to demand and artist popularity.
as Opus rightly say everyone makes mistakes and its a massive learning curve for all involved im sure.
even relatively old hands like Steve Laz has let people down because of bad management and an underestimation of demand (Micallef print release)
I think these 'new' galleries need to take a leaf out of the more experienced galleries books. advertsing a preview night on a flyer and on a forum, inviting anyone who signs up to the website along is only going to cause problems.
what happened to the good old days when preview nights were for friends, family and invited guests only?
on page one of this thread Opus said and I quote 'It's an exhibition of artwork that both artists have been working very hard for it's not a fight for a print!'.
if this is the case, why release prints on the night? why not release them online that day or sometime in the future? leading to less confusion, a smaller queue and everyone having a fair (sic) chance of getting one?
fair enough if some are kept aside for friends and family, thats inevitable, but why offer them to the general public in the first place? its only going to attract the problems incured on the night.
why not firstly offer them to people who have bought stuff before and then see whats left? most galleries look after their biggest patrons. if there are 'hardcore' / 'real' fans out there, then surely it makes sense that they get offered first?
a free for all is only going to encouarge all the negative things posted on this thread about the night. once the flippers arent interested then there should, in theory be more available for the so called real fans. just my opinion and Im sure people will disagree, but it seems that a lack of proffesionalism and the ease at which flippers can attend these nights, will only help give this scene a bad name and thats not good for the future...

Good post KillerKillah
This is a monster of a scene, and its always gonna be hard for all the Galleries and Artists to satisfy its appetite.

So the ยฃ150 deposit IS refundable?

Copyright / Hush - The queue rumours..., by bankruptcreative on Jun 1, 2008 0:10:08 GMT 1, I think it is a bit bad to quote a pm, even if he wasn't particularly tactful.
For fear of dragging this out further, could you quote your PM which he was replying to... it feels a bit one sided otherwise.
Also, Opus have explained their side of the situation, wouldn't it be best to keep any further posts relating to the show on the positive side.
What sort of things would people like to see for the future, whether it is about opening show queues, or wider issues...

The artists needn't apologise to you or anyone else. What for? If anything, your rant at Hush and CR was ridiculous. You should try apologising for that too!

Copyright / Hush - The queue rumours..., by buffin on Jun 1, 2008 8:31:12 GMT 1, Ok ok Your all right so you know what...... I apologise. I shouldn't have posted that pm. I was / am still frustrated will the whole thing. There you go....apologies are easy...anyone else wanna try it? [glow=red,2,300]The artists needn't apologise to you or anyone else[/glow]. What for? If anything, your rant at Hush and CR was ridiculous. You should try apologising for that too!
Sorry I can't be bothered to read all this to find out but are you saying that the multiple IP address thing was explained satisfactorily?

Copyright / Hush - The queue rumours..., by mammal2 on Jun 1, 2008 10:20:03 GMT 1, This shows what a terrible site this place is becoming. So a gallery f**ked up. (Opus have done their selves no favors) Its not the end of the world. Stop being keyboard warriors and direct your anger at something that REALLY means something. There WILL be more Hush prints. 10 pages of "I demand an apology" is quite stupid. Trust me, if Banksy ever does a solo show over here, and releases prints (which i doubt) I wouldn't want to meet half of you lot. Life is far too short.
