Faile to move to a Major Gallery!, by Pattycakes on Jun 16, 2008 11:09:43 GMT 1, I am afraid I have not a huge amount of infomation on this but I've been told that Faile are possibly (most likely) going to be taken on by Gagosian Gallery in New York. I heard this from a friend who is very much in the know, does anyone else have know anything about this? Normally My friend is very well connected and I do trust him when he says things (he's been right in the past!)

Faile to move to a Major Gallery!, by daley on Jun 16, 2008 11:27:45 GMT 1, Considering Gagosian Gallery is primarily a fine art gallery, as opposed to an urban gallery, it's an interesting twist. Gagosian deal with some of the big guns - Bacon, Hopper, Saville & Pollock etc - so it can't be a bad thing. Just shows how the urban/outsider scene is blending with the fine art establishment.

Faile to move to a Major Gallery!, by Daniel Silk on Jun 16, 2008 11:31:09 GMT 1, I think things are just getting so big now that all the big names just cant keep up with things if they are involved with the sales as well so they need to offload it to galleries that are more setup to handling big print releases.

Faile to move to a Major Gallery!, by Pattycakes on Jun 16, 2008 11:49:16 GMT 1, My friend apparently heard this at the Basel Art Fair last week, there were quite a few people saying it was happening, though for certain Banksy will not be joining them

Please look up Gagosian. You don't go Gagosian because they are 'more setup to handling big print releases'.
Side note, this rumor has been going around for about 4 months or so.

Heard Banksy is gonna keep the money "IN-HOUSE". But supposed if a big-time mgr was to offer him BIG bucks he would think of picking one up. He's just enjoying his new born.

Faile to move to a Major Gallery!, by Guest on Jun 16, 2008 15:33:21 GMT 1, Yes, it's true... Why would anyone "announce" this to a web forum full of a bunch of kids with no real money to spend on art? Faile used to care about the community here...
Did anyone else notice that every single Faile piece at Cans Festival was removable? Where do you think all of that art went? It was sold, or other prior arrangements were made with their new dealer.
Right now, the people that are in the know and have the money are posturing; the collectors are being informed and insider trading schemes are being developed to take them to the top of the pyramid. This takes about a year to position an artist for Blue-Chip acceptance...

I'm told (quite reliably) that Banksy gives as much money to charity as he keeps for himself. How accurate that is I don't know, but I can guarantee there is at least an element of truth involved, so I can't imagine he's all about the money, if that's what you're suggesting. I'm sure he's made a few quid recently and is well on the road to becoming a very wealthy guy in any case.

Id like to think all this only applies to the originals/one off editions of Faile. There will always be people selling Faile prints for around 2k -5k on ebay.

What a stupid thing to say. The 'kids' like people here are the ones who have been buying Faile prints for years and supporting them from the start, were Gagosian interested when Faile started out? No. Are you saying that Faile only care about big money? I don't get that impression.

Faile to move to a Major Gallery!, by onemandown72 on Jun 16, 2008 17:04:35 GMT 1, This is bound to happen with certain artists over a period of time, and the current street art movement is still in it's infancy (in terms of timeframe that these artists have been actively working). Banksy & Faile both seem to have the staying power, and as a result are going to attract broader and more high profile interest. Hopefully, and I believe that this will be the case both Banksy & Faile will continue to push the boundaries in terms of work that they produce.

I think JSG is still a little bitter as no-one here took the bait when he tried to rip off forum members with a silly price for his Gold Flags. He saw one sell for 12k or so and came on here expecting his hand to be bitten off! Quite an aggressive salesperson who obviously thinks we're a bunch of mugs, as confirmed by this post! Clearly anyone who doesn't want to be ripped off is either a kid or broke!

Faile to move to a Major Gallery!, by Macdeee on Jun 16, 2008 17:11:37 GMT 1, I dont know much about this either and I wish Faile all the best with everything, but I am gutted to see that on their last two visits to London they did not put up ONE street piece. (Let me know if im wrong, Cans doesnt count) They were in town for a whole week for the Tate painting but did no work on the street. To me this spells the end of Faile as street artists.

Faile to move to a Major Gallery!, by maadbeats on Jun 16, 2008 17:13:16 GMT 1, I say great job Patricks. First the tate now this. I have been following them since early 2006. They have worked hard to get where they are and deserve it. Been top gentleman to me since day one. Hopefully I can get a few more beauties for the walls before they become out of my price range. I love to see artists I have been following and collecting make it big. Make me feel as if I helped by supporting along on way.

hmmmm... still in that Las Vegas mindset huh jetset? I don't think there is any insider trading going on with galleries trying to rip off buyers with this, and to be honest I take this rumor with a grain of salt since Marsea at New Image has been telling me that Dietch was going to be showing Faile for like the last year (I don't believe this either).
Did you make it out to the Las Vegas collects show? Thats an example of galleries ripping off buyers. Gagosian and Quinn have to be laughing all the way to the bank with those Damien Hirsts on the back wall. Any time Hirst makes subpar work, they know they can sell it to Vegas.

I'm not trying to be ill-mannered here but if you don't believe forms of 'insider trading' are going on with galleries, managers, and to a lesser extent, artists... you're fooling yourself.

I'm not saying that, I'm saying that I don't believe insider trading is likely going on with Faile with the sole purpose of getting them in the top gallery in the world. Insider trading happens, art is probably the largest unregulated market in the world, second only to drug trafficking. Small schemes and conspiracies abound, but I don't believe the large scale conspiracy theories like jetset has proposed.

What happened to the truck? How many failes were on that thing? Hmmmmm. Definitely a major part of the show, most would agree...

Sorry, I thought my sarcasm would travel through the internet. If you can't make fun of yourself, who can you make fun of; eh?
But, you go on to prove my point. Faile used to care about the community. How many recent street pieces have you seen? I see lots of Failes work disappearing from the street, but not a lot being added; that's all I'm saying...
Faile is going big; and I don't think it's a bad thing; at all. They are good people who have worked hard for everything they've got.

That's not fair. The Gold Flag had just sold for $12K on ebay. I had mine listed for $10K GBP, and it sold for $9K GBP. Since the market has simmered down, I've sold them for as little as $5K GBP.
I'm an art dealer. I make my living off of selling art. I define my life by selling art and working with artist's. I thought that much was clear by now?!?! What's your point, man, and who the hell are you to talk to me like that?

Clearly anyone who doesn't want to be ripped off is either a kid or broke!

Faile to move to a Major Gallery!, by Guest on Jun 17, 2008 2:18:57 GMT 1, Yes, it's true... This takes about a year to position an artist for Blue-Chip acceptance... hmmmm... still in that Las Vegas mindset huh jetset? I don't think there is any insider trading going on with galleries trying to rip off buyers with this, and to be honest I take this rumor with a grain of salt since Marsea at New Image has been telling me that Dietch was going to be showing Faile for like the last year (I don't believe this either). Did you make it out to the Las Vegas collects show? Thats an example of galleries ripping off buyers. Gagosian and Quinn have to be laughing all the way to the bank with those Damien Hirsts on the back wall. Any time Hirst makes subpar work, they know they can sell it to Vegas.
You wouldn't believe how little I am actually in Vegas anymore. We've got an office in Brooklyn now too!
If you don't think that this is insider trading in the most obvious way, then you are crazy! C'mon, I thought you were in the business too, James? Aren't you a dealer in LA now?
Funny comments though... Hirst is made for Vegas! Get your fake Picasso's and Hirst's right here, baby!

Faile to move to a Major Gallery!, by Heavyconsumer on Jun 17, 2008 3:23:09 GMT 1, Sorry JSG, you're right. I was unaware of the fact you are a dealer. I was out of line, agreed! I would not begrudge you or anyone else earning a living of course. Good luck to you.
