Are faile on to a winner??, by low3 on Jul 1, 2008 0:33:28 GMT 1, Opinions please:
High prices aside, do you think that Faile are on to a winning idea with their latest releases and the fairQ method of buying??
From my point of view, i think it could be a brilliant way of releasing prints for all major artists in future. Just think, wasn't it nice to be able to go on to the faile site in no particular rush, have a good look at all the releases, pick the ones you like and then stick your name in the barrel and see what happens?!
You could argue it makes things fairer for everyone (at the risk of putting a few people's noses out of joint), and people who can't sit by their computers all day F5ing can get a piece of the action.
Besides that, it seems like a hell of a lot of flippers are the majority of the people who can afford to sit by the pc all day, being as that's how they make a living?
Also you'd never feel the pain again of having that print in your basket only for it to kick you out.
Lets have a nice, well mannered debate!!

Though I think I mastered the F5 some time ago and generally get most of what I try for (no software programs here!) I think FairQ is fantastic! It's great being able to mull over what you might buy!

Are faile on to a winner??, by etched on Jul 1, 2008 0:51:57 GMT 1, flippers are being eradicated by the higher pricing thats coming about. unfortunately that action is actually costing the genuine buyer as now they are going to pay near flip prices in future. good and bad i say but as a genuine buyer who can make it his/her business to be around when a sale drops im gonna pay more. its the state of affairs at the moment, unfortunate for some, fortunate for others. at this rate the next bansky could drop for 1/2k.....lottery or not !

WHAT HE SAID!!!
BUT and there is a BUT, I'm sadly one of the few whom this wouldn't suit. I've had ongoing problems with Paypal, that I gave up trying to resolve almost 6 months ago. While I do feel that a "FairQ" system is the best solution yet, I think multiple payment methods or a PROPER credit card processor, rather than those thieves, would be the best way to go. Can't knock Faile for innovating though! Brilliant!
It may not be worthwhile comparing the whole browsing of products side of things to other artists though. I'm pretty sure that most would be seriously put off by having to produce such a volume of work for a release. While the vast majority was not to my taste, again I take my hat off to the Patricks.
I can't help but feel this may be the last "popular" release by Faile, hence the pre-order on the buy it now print and the selection of work in the lottery system. Have they always/ever done so many releases at the same time before? Admittedly I'm kind of a half fan and only like a few of their images (this large edition included by the way).

Are faile on to a winner??, by Heavyconsumer on Jul 1, 2008 1:08:05 GMT 1, Yes Amin, I have successfully used Google checkout once. I have no credit card problem, simply a Paypal one - caused I believe by "country-jumping" and repeated change of billing address (I think CC/bank account and country of billing must correspond for Paypal). As I'm generally a buyer and not a seller, I deemed the headache involved in resolving these issues unworthwhile. Their customer care were painfully poor and costly to call, whilst unresponsive by email.

Are faile on to a winner??, by thesewalls on Jul 1, 2008 1:32:22 GMT 1, yeah, gotta watch out for those "country-jumpers" i've heard some really bad paypal stories over the years, and commend Faile and FairQ for offering another option...to paypal and to maniacal releases. i am genuinely happy to participate in this lottery, and favor it over the old way. that being said, the rush associated with some releases has been greater than the high provided by many substances. it's kind of like seeing your favorite band play live, or watching your team at their stadium. it's an interactive experience...one that a lottery does not provide. however, the lottery makes up for it with freedom, by allowing for a heartfelt decision.

Are faile on to a winner??, by thesewalls on Jul 1, 2008 2:03:44 GMT 1, and yeah, heavy, their August release (their last completely 'live' one) was straight bonkers. the quality was all there, and the amount of different prints available was shocking (twice as good and about twice as many as this one, and to answer your question, yes, this is their style of release). literally, one after the next, better and better. they just kept popping up and slowly disappearing. it was suck a f*cking rush. the 'prints' page looked completely different every 5 minutes or so. they also started with a lot of B&W or single color, cheaper prints, and progressed to the more heavily worked prints. you also sometimes had the 'option' of buying the B&W/single color version, or the full color version, but you didn't necessarily know that at the time. i ended up getting refunded on all 3 prints i bought, but it was still a positive experience in my mind. really quite phenomenal. it surely turned me from fan to a junkie - i had seen nothing like it, ever. than their next release was lottery style. and at the time of their previous release, they were not THAT popular.
Faile is no doubt evolving quite rapidly. As i understand, their heavy hitting will come in their London show. This release was awesome, but overall lacked gusto in my opinion. They must be so busy. However, their style - including how they release their work - has gotten them where they are today, and they'd be fools to abandon it. It is part of what makes Faile Faile. Than again, you could have said that about Aiko a few years ago so who knows. And come on, didn't Brad leave Jennifer for Angelina? So six apples must equal one orange, right?

So we all think.
I wonder just how many accounts some flippers have though.
Maybe its not as Fair as they would have us believe...

Are faile on to a winner??, by Winter on Jul 1, 2008 13:10:28 GMT 1, I think the 2 month delay in getting prints is a fantastic idea. If you actually want the print to keep there isn't a better way to do it. The fact there are prints still available is proof of this. What a luxury to sleep on whether to get a print or not.

Are faile on to a winner??, by G-Man on Jul 1, 2008 13:15:40 GMT 1, THere are pros and cons to both methods of release in my view
Both are open to flippers and as they make a living from doing it then they will always find a way to either have multiple accounts or to have time or software to F5
I do like having the time to consider my purchase rather than having to grab whatever the print is if I like the artist
But.. I do like the rush of the whole sell out in 5 seconds
Not sure how POW will handle the next Banksy release though as if they let us all know that it's on the way it'll be another NW or worse???

Are faile on to a winner??, by arcam on Jul 1, 2008 13:24:17 GMT 1, I think that all the people who have mastered the art of F5ing (and maybe even employing special software programs) would disagree with you! What software? This is just a myth if you ask me. I still prefer the traditional way of selling the only thing I'd like others to adopt is to be able to view prints before release so we can make an informed decision on the print.

FairQ needs to tie a credit card down to the lottery and have a cross check on their Database for multiple account at the same address. At least some people may have a chance of getting a MR. B or other artist.
