Both lovely works . Surburban do you only post after the Alcopops have taken full affect ? Look forward to hearing what you consider good enough to grace your walls, as your posts appear mostly negative.

Josh Keyes vs. Ryan McGinness, by ricosg11 on Sept 23, 2008 22:46:42 GMT 1, dont get me wrong...Josh is a great guy from emails I had a year or so ago, I love his subject matter, and on screen the work looks great. In person is where Josh's work falls a bit short for me. You get within a couple feet and you lose a lot of the detail. That said he is still young and has done quite well thus far. Hopefully we continue to see growth and improvement.

Hmm interesting post.
That McGinness piece is stunning, I am not sure how it compares to my work. I think both styles stand on their own and in their own right. If anything it would be exciting to work on a piece with him. ;D
Ricog11, I appreciate your comments and agree with you about the level of detail. I am continually working to improve my skills, yet at the same time, I was taught that too much detail can kill a piece, and it is always a good thing to reveal the material of which a piece is made, instead of simulating a computer graphic. I Have a fondness for the perceptual magic that Vermeer achieved through his small paintings. I am not saying that my work comes even close to his mastery but the fact that when you approach his paintings everything falls into place, when you get close to them they become like impressionist paintings not in terms of color but in terms of the suggestion of form.
The viewer completes the picture.
I hear you, and will work harder to develop my technique.
Thank you.
Cheers,
Josh
