Banksy Donuts Print, by Metropolis Art on Sept 11, 2013 14:15:48 GMT 1, Interesting good advertisement for you Metropolis Art the cynics around here would say you created the post. However far from me to be classed as a cynic. Hi Kel
Just for your information, we have been members of the forum for 3+ years now and as a rule do not advertise our wares on here as we have a web site to do just that. The number of posts IE 7 will back that up. But that doesn't mean that we don't look at the forum on a daily basis, we do, as we find it both informative and in some cases, entertaining.
We responded to the sales thread because it was clearly posted by the man who was making enquiries about our print, and he was attempting to sell something that didn't belong to him. We quoted our price to emphasise this fact.
I hope this clears up any confusion you may have had.

Banksy Donuts Print, by Metropolis Art on Sept 11, 2013 15:39:05 GMT 1, Hi Wizzy
Nope, that is the correct web site. Unfortunately we put some of our Banksy prices up in 2012 to keep up with current trends, but we have a glitch on the website where certain changes go on ok and some don't and this is one of those affected. Our web designer has been trying to sort this out for over a month while we sit here and shout at him.
Our apologies for anyone who got overly excited at the old price, we hope to have it sorted soon.

Banksy Donuts Print, by Happy Shopper on Sept 11, 2013 15:49:17 GMT 1, There's been an arguement on here recently that if you sell to gallery, at least you get your asking price (and if you're happy, who cares!?). In that same vein, surely, even if you're a gallery, if you sell at your asking price you should be happy, No? What someone does with the print after is their business.
(Just playing Devil's advocate, for the sake of discussion!)

MA absolutely no confusion on my part as I mentioned some cynics on this forum would have viewed it differently. As you say you have been a member since 2010 and do read the forum so you will know there are plenty of cynics around.
In all fairness to "Ivan Tan" I have to admire his initiative to source a print at a cheap price and then offer it around with a nice earner on top. Some people call this flipping though I would say it is more sourcing. Which is the same practice that some galleries undertake. Please don't take that as directed at you as it is not.

Banksy Donuts Print, by Metropolis Art on Sept 11, 2013 16:18:05 GMT 1, Just to clear up a couple of the points made above. If Mr Tan had actually paid for the print and had it in his possession it would have been a different matter. While we would have probably shouted at the screen at his blatant flippery, when its all said and done we would have got our price and it would have been his to do with it as he saw fit, as Damien and Kel have both quite rightly pointed out.
Anyway, to close this thread, thanks for those who have taken the time to comment, and for future reference, all the art on our website is actually in our possession and available for viewing at any time. We do not sell then source.

It's underhand and sneaky, but it's also the way many (dodgy) galleries work.

Lots of Design Galleries do it, mark up after mark up but (usually) with each person in the chain in the know about the proceedings, its the way it goes. In this instance though maybe not carried out correctly.

yes you could.
until just one customer gets wind of your "business model".
(it only takes 1...you don't know if they are capable of causing you rep damage)
then from then on ..it's downhill... all the way to the gutter.
btw : wizzy just because an org does something doesn't means it's cool.. whilst i know you didn't say that in so many words - you get my drifty.
take PA and MA for eg... what stock do they have which they don't.. and if you found them touting work they didn't actually have.. would you think hey that's life or would you STRIKE them out for future ref.
ho ho.. that's the reason most shysters go and change their wee name in the vain hope that .. folks won't re-detect them in their new niceguy guise.
..interesting thread.

Banksy Donuts Print, by Elephants and Castles on Sept 11, 2013 17:39:03 GMT 1, I think there are far more galleries than you think that take part in the same type of sales technique, I'm based in the US but have had 3 incidents with reputable UK based galleries that I purchased art from ( art that was sold as "on-hand" ) and then after paying either a deposit or the full amount was told that the piece was not available anymore or they were having trouble locating it ( aka CND Soldiers signed , paid for full price 3 weeks before "that" auction and then told it had not shipped due to various reasons school holidays, dog has worms, UK postal service taken over by the Polish , then 2 days after "that" auction was not available blahblah blah but they could get me one for an additional 6k on top of what I paid, you know who you are :-) or my personal favorite a Barry McGee which I paid for from another well known gallery that was in his latest show and then resold for a higher amount to an actual friend of mine and then I was told Barry had not wanted the piece sold anymore.... I know what Ivan did is a bit shady but aren't there a lot of people buying prints from Nelly Duff , POW etc and flipping them at a higher cost without having the physical piece on-hand? I do see a rather grey area where this is concerned, let me put it this way if Metropolis Art had sold the piece to another buyer and they had resold it on the Forum for a higher price without picking this up and everyone was happy would this be such a bad thing? As a follow up I have located several collectors pieces of art and I do all my business as transparent as possible, I have had pieces offered to me that go out to collectors and come back to me a few days later double or triple the price, we all know this goes on so why is everyone so shocked? It's good that your all doing your homework but if someone is trying to make some money with a little bit of sidewards thinking then good on them.
