new micaleff prints at LAZ, by paradoxia on Jan 16, 2007 23:08:48 GMT 1, We are please to announce the arrival of three new lithographs by Antony Micallef.
They have all been printed on Somerset Velvet 300 gsm and stamped with Curwen Chilford embossed stamp. Each print is signed and numbered by the artist.
The print titles are: We Come In Peace (71.5 cm x 81.5 cm), Bomber Girl (68.5 cm x 82 cm) and Minotaur Weapon (70 cm x 82.5 cm).
There are 50 prints in each edition and they are priced at £4000 + vat each, plus posting and package.
The print will come with a letter of provenance signed and thumb printed by Mr Lazarides.
As always, due to the popularity of the artist's work, we will be selling the prints on a first come first served basis and limiting one litho per customer.

The last two 21st century prints sold at 4k plus VAT at Eyestorm and one went for around 4.8k on the Bay the other day. It is serious money though and will restrict the bagger issue. Think seriously though, Banksy's Kates, look at the value of those now.

It always seems so expensive at the time, but then when things go up higher, people say "how could I not have seen it, if only I had a time machine!" No one really knows what things will be like a year from now, or 10 years from now. But Micallef prices seem to be going up faster than banksy, and these are editions of 50. Let's see how long they take to sell out.

Personally if I'm paying that much for a piece of art, I'd want an original (not a print, edition of 50).
Sorry to be a d*ck, but I'm going to 'keep it real' as the kids say... Laz isn't catering to the majority of members on these forums. He has collectors/previous buyers with deep pockets that will buy this stuff - oftentimes before even available to be seen by the public. It is a whole other ballgame these days. The Banksy effect will & has helped all the artists in his gallery, the hype of POW/SG only fuels the beast, and the upcoming Sotheby's Contemporary auction will also bring more exposure to his gallery.
