Faile πΊπΈ New Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by mrwyatt on Nov 18, 2010 12:51:24 GMT 1, Art is subjective - FACT, everyone likes different styles and artists - no one is wrong. I had no intention of buying a Faile print the other day (I didnt even have the cash) but I saw 'Launch Tonight and it struck a cord with me so I spent the next hour 20mins frantically pressing the BUY NOW button until it eventually relented and spat out a print. Sometime images do that to people, and right or wrong people will always buy what they want.

Interesting "FACT"..can you tell me a little on what aesthetic "chord" a scantily clad chick straddling a rocket on a pink background actually "struck" . Are you particularly interested in feminism, strong female role models, 1950's fashion and iconography, the duality of... well.. you know. Or soft porn ?. Or is this maybe just a sugar coated art placebo ? i.e, not art at all, unless the artist claims their concept as being to create sugar coated placebos that boys may like.. in which case the buyer would be in on the joke, rather than the joke being on them..
A massive step down in Faile quality and concept IMO..nevertheless, pretty product. If you ignore the price.
*apologies to Mrwyatt for quoting, not really directed at you but at the thread and work in general.

Faile πΊπΈ New Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by saint on Nov 18, 2010 13:52:22 GMT 1, Jebus Marte, i think the guy was saying each to their own which i fully agree with, if you dont like it fair play, but dont try and force your view on other people, or try using sarcasm to belittle someone for liking something you dont. This forum shocks me sometimes, some people are really nice and helpful and others feel that their view is the right one and no one else is allowed to express an opinion.
A massive step down in forum quality and posts IMO, nevertheless, blah blah blah. If you ignore the blah.

Faile πΊπΈ New Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by deepdownboy on Nov 18, 2010 13:59:49 GMT 1, Its actually disgusting to think how much money these guys make...Its literally printing money to them. $240,000 revenue in one print release which most likely cost them $2000 in materials a the very most Furthermore $800 for a faile?? That is totally unreasonable they are hardly mainstream. POW used to sell failes for Β£75. I'm sorry but Banksy is the MAN for not selling out like these guys. Those faile boys are laughing eating lobster and drinking Champagne in the Plaza hotel NY I don't think your gauge of the Faile market is correct. Also do the numbers on Banksy's Trolley release and get back to me.
Don't agree with this at all for the size of this print and the work/coeliation that has gone into making it, not to mention the low print run I think Β£550.00 is a bargain

Me ? I like Faile.. wasn't intended as sarcasm. I genuinely like that people buy and support Urban & Street Art and think it's a great door opener into a bigger, greater, richer life experience for us poor sods denied access to the "Fine Arts" for generations. But... if I think an artist or artists group or band or musician etc are cynically trying to manipulate people, through the scene, into buying something that doesn't come from their heart, then I think we should have the freedom and courage to say so without being branded "haters"... you're right though, I could have phrased my criticism in a better way..sugar coated it a little maybe.

I know, let's discuss the Faile release instead of mrwyatt's post and your being "shocked" that someone dare to offer an opposing opinion on "why" we buy what we buy and which buttons are being pressed (other than F5), when we do.

If you cant see that your post was sarcastic for the sake of it, whilst obviously trying to belittle someone then so be it, more fool you. Maybe your "connection" to the scene makes you feel your view is more important than others? who knows.
Frankly i dont care.
Back to the failes work, i like it, still not sure what anyone would do with the blocks but as i said before i look forward to seeing pics.

Faile πΊπΈ New Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by mrwyatt on Nov 18, 2010 14:53:25 GMT 1, I saw, I liked, I bought.
Im not bothered whats been done before or whats going to be created after. If I think an image is cool i'll buy it. Thats what my point was. If peeps like something and they buy it for whatever reason thats all cool and the gang. It is a fact that art is subjective.
As for this release I think its great, The Faile guys created art on blocks (nothing new) but then to make an 18 colour screen print and keep that print looking as if the image was still on blocks is awesome IMHO. Obviously I havent seen the actual print yet but if its half as good looking in person as it is on the site - then the detail should be fantastic.

You have no idea. Did you miss Faile's piece on the side of the tate? They are the closest thing to mainstream. They are hugely collectable not only here, but in the States too.

Faile πΊπΈ New Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by murdock on Nov 18, 2010 15:03:45 GMT 1, Hi everyone, my first post (been trying to get some pics of EVOL originals up to that side of the board for over a week now, but at home I never find the time)...
Just wanted to get this back to the artworks, too.
So far, I got the Star Spangel Shadows from Faile and thought I would not be able to buy/afford another or be around when one piece that I liked actually hit. But like many of the board members, when I saw Launch Tonight, I liked it instantly (what I cannot say about many other Faile artworks of recent times), so I thought I give it a try - and I bagged one at 18:01. I hesitated for one second because the print version of Safe Stilletos was also very good (better than the original IMO), but I thought I should stay by my first impulse.
The blocks... well, not for me... (and I really try not to buy sth purely as an investment).
So, 2 days later, I still love the image, I still think this is a very very good piece from Faile, and that the "new" woodblock style is a good step further on.
My wife did not think so (girl on a rocket and all), but this is another story...
Thanks for reading :-)

Oh it wasn't for the sake of it Saint, it was to generate a debate about spunking $800 on an image of a chick riding a rocket because it was produced by Faile.. hadn't seen any other similar images of chicks on rockets on here by other artists and didn't realise the subject matter would strike "chords" amongst fans of street art..and to be honest, I'm a bit lost on how/why this work is so popular..but maybe I'm missing the something.. a chick with a stiletto knife however, well, that's different.
As for my being "connected" to the scene.. don't let that bother you dude.. I'd hardly be slagging off Faile if I gave a shit hey..

Faile πΊπΈ New Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by yapsey on Nov 18, 2010 16:52:44 GMT 1, can't believe these are hanging around..... amazing prices for an edition of only 100.... Image is exponentially more important than edition size and pricing. and clearly the collectors don't agree that the prices are "amazing". If they did, all of the prints would be sold out. Launch Tonight would have been my choice but the text corner ruined it for me.
couldn't agree more. but these are three pretty typical faile images that i would assume fans would have snapped up pretty quickly. lesser faile prints vanished far quicker (that take on the american flag springs to mind).
also, i really don't see it with stilettos. the lesser of the three images imho. launch tonight and live on brighton beach are the best by a long way. still cant believe that brighton beach is still there - fantastic images and colouring.

Faile πΊπΈ New Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by rockhopper on Nov 18, 2010 23:22:23 GMT 1, This recent release is no rep of what Faile is. Possibly a soft nudge to the FAILE TSUNAMI that is coming....
Is there any evidence that these images will actually be released as prints?

Faile πΊπΈ New Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by jones27 on Nov 19, 2010 1:22:17 GMT 1, If this print release happened in 2006 then we wouldnt be talking about Faile today. I loved the old stuff because a man replaced with a dogs head (Faile Love) or a woman wishing a tiger and jesus happiness (10 ways) just didnt make sense. Those images were odd, beautiful and captivating.

I'm with you on this Marte, nice to see someone questioning the "art" that is behind the picture and opening up a debate on its artistic merit.
I personally think it looks like a pretty picture, not sure of the message (is there one?) behind it, and if anyone realy thought about that before buying?
Were people buying a pretty picture by Faile, or a piece of art that said something to them?

Would love to see them, I'm sure they are beauties.....thanks..... If this print release happened in 2006 then we wouldnt be talking about Faile today. I loved the old stuff because a man replaced with a dogs head (Faile Love) or a woman wishing a tiger and jesus happiness (10 ways) just didnt make sense. Those images were odd, beautiful and captivating. Street piece in Berlin

Faile πΊπΈ New Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by darhart on Nov 19, 2010 15:14:37 GMT 1, darhart....both are a pretty good reasons to by a piece of art....i personally just think...will that look good on my wall?...
Oh I agree, both good reasons.
I'm just interested in the debate Marte was trying to start, it seems like a very good point and something i've considered. I do feel though when spending the high sums involved in buying Faile prints, that personaly I would like more for my money than just a nice picture.
And im not saying these prints don't give that to some people, maybe I just don't see it?

Faile πΊπΈ New Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by otomi on Nov 29, 2010 18:06:29 GMT 1, A question about the recent imagery. Is it still taken from old graphic novels or are they making their own designs now?
