Faile ๐บ๐ธ New Print Release โข Show News โข Art For Sale, by mouser on Nov 20, 2012 22:20:12 GMT 1, Personally it wasnt a contest, as good a chance as others in getting the next release, but bought this one as it was one i wanted. Seems strange to opt for the next release when the buyer had already committed to purchasing this release.
Then again, different strokes for different folks.

Faile ๐บ๐ธ New Print Release โข Show News โข Art For Sale, by Ruggs on Nov 20, 2012 22:25:30 GMT 1, Got that e-mail as well. Tough decision: AP or first pick on the next release. What if the next is Happens Everyday ? What would you do ?
Buy it! I guess there will be a lot of swaps/trades going on if Faile release a dozen of these $150 prints over the coming months. Eventually collectors will get the image they are looking for.

Faile ๐บ๐ธ New Print Release โข Show News โข Art For Sale, by Guest on Nov 20, 2012 22:30:10 GMT 1, An artist proof is just an over run they will mark up differently as they cant number it now the others are editions.
They could do as many of these as they like, theres no rules.
Also each print is different anyway, so of course they will be different.
Really would not surprise me if they do an artist proof run to keep some of these people happy, could be quite a few... But you will never know.

Faile ๐บ๐ธ New Print Release โข Show News โข Art For Sale, by Feral Things on Nov 20, 2012 23:48:02 GMT 1, I'd always thought that artists proofs and printers proof were imperfect prints produced in the process of getting to an image which both the artist and printer are happy with. I'd always assumed they sometimes sold for more because they told the collector something about the artists thought processes in producing the final image but, like Freerange says, these days they just seem to be an excuse to do a bigger print run.

Nah they are just over runs.
It this modern age of perfect printing it does not exist. Usually they just make unique colours to mess around with.
Faile prints are hardly precise anyway, you would not notice if they were wonky or not. They are literally probably just over runs or they have printed more.
Ill go for the latter.

This practice isn't new and artists have being doing it for decades. Dali for example, the master of extracting every penny from his collectors, would release an edition of a print numbered /300 while at the same time releasing further editions of the same print on different papers or simply numbered in roman numerals. The unsuspecting collector would think they had a nice 1/300 print on Arches paper where in fact an entire run could be made up of over 1000. Hard to believe he got away with it but I don't think the ethical sale of his products was really a factor for him- plus he wasn't alone in doing it. Unnumbered AP's from Dali always raise an eyebrow because there could literally be more of them in existence than the original numbered edition.
I believe Faile however couldn't be further from this way of thinking and clearly do not have anything like the aggressive profiteering mindset of Dali and his publishers. Proof being that this series would still have sold out had it been priced at $450.
These are the good guys and I'd think it's safe to go with the AP - it separates it from the main run and I doubt there's that many of them.

Faile ๐บ๐ธ New Print Release โข Show News โข Art For Sale, by Winter on Nov 21, 2012 8:23:31 GMT 1, Got that e-mail as well. Tough decision: AP or first pick on the next release. What if the next is Happens Everyday ? What would you do ? You went for the print which you did because you liked it (I guess) you're now being given the chance to actually buy it and you're trying to decide whether to go for it. I think that's a bit insulting to the people who really wanted this print and haven't been given the opportunity.

Faile ๐บ๐ธ New Print Release โข Show News โข Art For Sale, by Feral Things on Nov 21, 2012 9:19:30 GMT 1, Thanks for the info, Stang and Freerange. I'll stick to Dali's OGs to stay on the safe side

Honestly hope noone feels insulted by my post ! Faile offerd me the AP or a first pick on the next release by saying: Please let me know your decision so I can make it available to someone else if you're not interested. I decided for the first pick, so someone else gets the AP. All happy, no ?

Well said! Didn't get the AP e-mail but did get the first access one last night. If however the AP e-mail came through I wouldn't have hesitated. Congrats blobbydon and anyone else who got one of these.

He comes out and hands it to you... and you just say... actually, no thanks. Im going to wait for the peanut butter to come in instead.

It has less to do with who they are offering an "AP" to or "choice for next print" and ALL to do with hype. We are not talking about how good their work is or how it is the same ideas remixed. Instead we are all in a fuss about how fast a print sells, over-sells or what's next in the pipeline. We are all feeding into the hype of something in demand instead of how good the product (art in this case) is.
In this day in age you think Faile doesn't know how to stop sales before they over sell? Come on mates. They have a sophisticated site. They have people build statues for them in Mongolia for s**te sake. If they really cared about not messing about collectors they could under-sell the prints and then offer a lucky few the ten prints they held back after all the smoke clears. It's this 18 page thread they were shooting for and each one of you salivating how nice Faile was to send you an email back.
Instead of talking about their redundant images and that lovely series of work they called paintings last time around, they got you chaps are already thinking about the next print.

The guys being offered the A/P's are the one's that were 101 onwards. Like everyone else has said on here not sure how many A/P's they are doing but I would guess between 10 to 20(ish). Then guys like me are being offered the 'first access or a sneak peak' option.

I think Journey or Air Supply made a song called "Don't Stop Believing". It's probably blarring right now as interns stuff these suckers into poster tubes.
