Eelus • Wot U Looking At Prints & Canvas, by Strange Al on Mar 30, 2007 18:18:38 GMT 1, Eelus prices bombed shortly after Christmas. Pretty much on the back of all the slagging he got re the colourways and calls of overkill.
I for one still think that both "Shat-at" and "Wot-u Lookin at" are really nice prints. They may not have the socio-political messages that Banksy's works have, but they make me chuckle and remind me of my childhood.
While a lot of the other POW releases aren't doing all too well on Ebay. I don't think that the bubble has burst quite yet; although I'm sure it will sooner or later. D Face, Micallef, Faile and Walker prints (to name a few) are still being sold in Ebay for substantially over their original prices.

I totally accept that the POW and Blackrat Walker prints aren't exactly flying out. Though a lot of the stuff he's been selling directly, which is frankly much better, is doing pretty well in the secondary market. Nick's done some great work; though, his choice of things to take to print has really surprised me.

His Baby Molls have been selling for below cost, Nickers and Finger pop hardy making any profit, probably none after ebay and paypal fees.

I have to agree that some of his work is much stronger than other pieces. When everyone was on POW buying the black mona prints at £175 (cos they didnt gat a FAILE) i picked up my original (1/1) APISH off his site for £400 (cos i didnt get a FAILE either).
i know which i prefer on my wall (see get yer banksys out) and which will hold its value.
The panic buying is crazy and i have almost been there myself but Rule One has to be "Do i like it?" not "do i get one before they all go ?"
Toodle pip.

I've got to admit I've bought some stuff I thought I liked but when it turned up is not up to my expectations, Space Invader Alex was one of them.

Though, I think that certain Walker works are strong enough and will do well in the secondary market. At least until the bubble bursts.

I think Nick is very capable of producing some real top notch stuff, and some of the best and very limited pieces probably won't get to the bay.

i expected more from the faile macbeth from POW. That was a bit of a let down, love the image but not the best print in the flesh. Perfered the Black & White version on their site ;D ;D

The keyword spamming issue is the main reason IMO. there are a lot of people on the Banksy bandwaggon who do not know the names of the other great artists out there so they would just buy becuase they were linked to Mr B, IMO of course. Cant be said for the likes of the Dan Baldwin prints and the Neate stuff, thats still flying

I agree - think they are great/fun prints! Think time will tell on Eelus - last time I spoke with him he said he was working on new images (think the Star Wars theme has been retired) and on different mediums.

Eelus has the artistic skills, the question for me is whether he has anything to say in his art. I agree that only time will tell. He's definitely working on some new stuff and so we may not have to wait too long.

It is currently under construction and the shat ats are now only available on the bay, but for a damn sight less than they were at the end of last year.
