Nick Walker • Vandal Airways, by Phil Midds on Apr 18, 2008 13:34:44 GMT 1, I am only looking to trade. Surely people dont have a problem with that? At the end of the day, the banksy and faile prints i am after only cost around £500 too when they came out! Seems a fair swap!
so would you be open to swapping your 'Vandal Airways' for my Faile 'My Confessions'? I haven't framed it yet but if it meant sacrificing it for the Nick Walker ...

If you really thought there would be no problem, why did you not make the offer under your usual username? 2. the prints you want to trade for were released many months ago and have appreciated in value over time. The prints you have to trade were released 24 hours ago and you don't even have them yet - why did you buy them if you don't want them? You just prevented others who did really want them from getting them. 3. If you want to flip 'em stick em on ebay. It offends people when you try and do it here.

Nick Walker • Vandal Airways, by spirit on Apr 18, 2008 13:49:13 GMT 1, The harm is in the fact that you stopped people who really wanted those prints getting them for cost price The harm is that if someone wants that print now they will need to give up a Banksy or Faile I don't see how you "lucked out" spending 900 quid on 2 prints you don't want (other than in terms of being able to flip them)
Phils offer of a swap for Confessions is much more reasonable. 2 recently released prints that cost about the same. Why don't you swap with him? you get your big NY Faile and he gets the VA.
Or dare I even bring up what people used to say on this board in these situations - if you don't want them why not do a good deed and sell them to another board member at cost? Whatever happened to that...

Nick Walker • Vandal Airways, by Phil Midds on Apr 18, 2008 13:52:00 GMT 1, Basically, I (like you) am not willing to shell out £2k+ for a print. I dont like the secondary market either. But i lucked out in this release (as 500 of you did for S&S... and 750 of you did for Trolleys) I was F5-ing along with all of you then too! I like Nicks work, but if i can swap it with someone who likes it more for a Banksy piece i like, then wheres the harm? We both paid the same price for prints we both will enjoy! Isnt that better than putting them on ebay for cash?
Fair point ... I think it's just my frustration at not getting a sniff at either of the NW's getting the better of me. I too have prints that I bought because I liked them, but still not framed them, that I'd be more than open to swap if something I preferred more comes along. I'm sure many other's would agree and do the same.

Very true and I would completely agree with that - the difference is that you didn't originally buy them purely to swap 24 hours later though did you?

Nick Walker • Vandal Airways, by Martin Whatson on Apr 18, 2008 14:25:31 GMT 1, I think he has a point! I myself has no chance at paying 2k for a Banksy, Neate, Micallef or Walker. I still want the prints. So if I had the chance at buying a print at cost I would go for it anyday! I basically only buy what I like and want on my wall. But with a wery restricted economy I cant go for the crazy secondary market prices. So I dont see the problem with buying something to get the hold of stuff you like even more! Most people here have done some pretty sweet deals from selling stuff they bought at cost sometime!
The only problem I see with this is to offer them up BEFORE they are recieved and before you even have got the chance at looking at the print! You can atleast wait untill you have it in hand!
I wanted the Vandal Air too! But woke up too late!

Nick Walker • Vandal Airways, by spirit on Apr 18, 2008 14:34:49 GMT 1, I know what you mean G-Man. It does get boring. But I feel there there used to be an unwritten rule here that you didn't immediately try and flip things here and if you did you got hammered. Recently however it seems to be more acceptable - not sure if that's simply because people just can't be bothered to fight it anymore or they are just bored of posting the same thing. But I do worry that this board is turning more and more into a sales tool for flippers and I don't think that's good for it's future. We've now got the situation where flippers back each other up saying it's OK and the people who don't like it have gone much quieter. And when they do take a stand against it they get the old "yawn" comment. Do you really want this bard to be full of ads reselling prints that sold yesterday for 10x the price? - cos that is where this is leading...

It dont take a genius to figure out that queuing 30 odd hours and selling something for 4 times you bought it is a no-brainer. If it clears a few bills for them and well .... unfortunately its the way it is.
2 other guyz and myself we in a caf f-5ing like torpedoes - the 1st came and went, the second came and went but I saw the elusive 'buy now' button before the dreaded time out thing happened. I was gutted - love the plane print & it looks even better in the flesh. So, how people can sell the Life's 2 Short or the others b4 they even get it is beyond me - but they queued 30odd hours and they'll do what they want to.

Nick Walker • Vandal Airways, by darjeeling on Apr 19, 2008 3:23:49 GMT 1, You keep feeding the animals it's no surprise they bite. Come on folks every month there's another print that people are just dying to get, if you missed this one move along and wait for the next print, having a crap 'v for vandals' print on your wall isn't going to change your life.
And anyway stop whining, it's all part of the game. Now I know a few people have said they don't like S&S for example but I guarantee not one single person on this entire forum would not buy the sh!t out of that print if they could get it in their cart and trade it up for another B print you love later.
But I digress, the question here isn't about that it's whether or not a print by a B grade artist is worth the same as a print by Banksy or Faile. Yeah right.

Nick Walker • Vandal Airways, by Heavyconsumer on Apr 19, 2008 4:12:01 GMT 1, this guy's on crack, a signed Banksy for a Walker edition of 150! OK! If it were about the art, he'd be thrilled with the unsigned Banksy of his choice too (for £450)!
IF people state they can't see the problem with others buying pieces they have no intention of enjoying to flip 'em before they've even seen them in most cases, that can only be because they're at it too! Sorry to be so cynical. I did not want either of the online releases yesterday so I'm impartial to a degree, but it still annoys me a little to have read of all the people that are having to pay 2/3/5 times as much for a print that released yesterday PURELY because some have bought art to deal it and not to enjoy it. "Same old story get over it," you may say and I won't argue with you, but come on guys, there must be at least some hypocracy in the fact that this was a forum designed for appreciators of art which has apparently become one used almost exclusively as a tool for speculators whenever there is a popular release. Either you're a flipper or they cost you money and/or deprive you of art, or you wouldn't be on the forum reading this! Like Watson I'm unable to buy a lot of art on ebay that I would otherwisw be able to afford. I believe we all have a right to be annoyed and continue to say this should not happen on the forum. This "I don't like ebay either" nonsense is just bollocks! You bought for a profit, please keep that sh!t off this forum. It's not like you'd keep the Banksy long either, you just want to make as much as you can and Walker ain't a cert to make you the £3k that Banksy will! We're not stupid, so take your new screenname and hit ebay please!

Nick Walker • Vandal Airways, by Heavyconsumer on Apr 19, 2008 4:34:14 GMT 1, anyone who does end up with these prints or others in similar circumstances should see it as their duty to contact the source (in this case BRP) and make them aware of the print number and how fast it was being offered up, as well as all seller details and contacts you have. Many galleries will try to avoid reselling to these people if they know who they are.
