BRP - Nick Walker - The Queue Diaries, by stuey09 on Apr 16, 2008 15:30:47 GMT 1, manchestermike - What happened last time? Trouble, fighting, those fighting being ushered to the front, people missing out, ebay swamped, prices down, flippers burnt, very good artist's career damaged...
It wasn't all bad. Jeez, some of the opinions on here are a little high and mighty.
I queued for Peacekeeper last year with Mcnuts, Lesbianwednesdays, Crackawacka, Howlinhooker and Wiseblood. Result was we drunk some free lager, took the piss and had a laugh, then bought some art for our walls. Big deal.
If these people want to queue, then let 'em. They're not hurting anyone. Just hope it stays dry.

ยฃ4.5k profit? lunacy! No wonder they're all sleeping rough! I was thinking more likely ยฃ1.5-ยฃ2k profit, but I guess even then it's worthwhile to a lot of people. If you're on 20k a year pre-tax, 2k for a day and a half is appealling! Pays for a holiday or a couple of month's rent or what have you, so I can understand it. Sadly it's also enough to attract the type of scumbags who were rewarded at the Mic release to return for dessert! I'd be ready to rumble if I were you guys, there's no doubt there'll be some undesirables throwing their weight around! Good luck and don't let those sh1tbags push in, there's strength in numbers!

BRP - Nick Walker - The Queue Diaries, by They call me Stephen on Apr 16, 2008 15:39:29 GMT 1, It is a lovely print if it's the piece im thinking of...ยฃ750 seems a bit on the steep side for me but there's obviously enough people out there who want it for that price and are willing to pay. I hope it doesn't escalade into another Micallef type affair. Sounds like that queue is already filling up tough
good luck to anyone plannig on going down...can't wait to hear the tales.
ps: If anyone sees that flipper and family from the Micallef fracas you know what to do.

There was one bit of trouble at the Mic release (all be it, a ridiculous bit - that had nothing to do with ppl queuing and more indicative of the place they were queuing, a fecking alleyway where dealing occurs)...lets get a grip and look forward to some interesting pieces in the Vandal series eh...but much more importantly free booze!!!! hallejulah!

That sets a bad precedent though... people will be queueing weeks before if that start... "I'm a fortnight early, pass me my print ticket and I'll fuck off"

well then only pass out the tickets closer to show time or when the line gets too big or needed... not all lines need the tickets, but I think the gallery can tell when it would be a good/bad idea..
i think tickets would be a great idea.

bit cynical mike.....they could hand tickets out from midnight or in the morning of the show, that way, the rest of the people who have waited will get to go bed or push crack.

How do you decide how soon that is though? If people start thinking they'll get tickets they will get there earlier and earlier

the gallery can decide. let the tools hang out for weeks. If i own the gallery and look out the window and see one dork out there 12 days before the opening, i let him stay there.. 2 days before and now there are 20 people camped out on the sidewalk, I give them tickets...
it all depends on the line and the gallery..
easy.
there is NO standard time to give tickets.
