top 10 most over rated bands, by Gurn on Sept 19, 2018 12:49:17 GMT 1, The Ramones and The Clash.....(runs for cover). What?!!? Haha..Let me elaborate. I love punk, I have seen pretty much all of the old school punk bands and many of the new 'real' punk bands..No one who knows me can get their head around the fact that I think these two bands are overrated. I cannot deny that nearly every punk band cites The Ramones as an influence, but I think that is because they were so obviously different, I don't think they can be regarded as punk. I find them a bit 'bubblegum', which I know is easy to say when seen alongside what followed. I guess they were an exciting change at the time when they arrived at CBGB's. I just find it all a bit samey.
As for The Clash..Great songs and energy but very much middle class chancers who rode the current trend before dabbling in a crap reggae fusion..I just don't think they were 'real'.

Thanks for that. My “what?” was of course very much tongue in cheek, but I hear what you say. For me, the Clash were pioneers. A great punk band. One or two of their songs would definitely make my Desert Island Discs list!
