The The, by scavos on Sept 9, 2007 1:33:07 GMT 1, Fvckin hell mate - now your talking! I've loved Matt Johnson and The The for as long as I can remember. I left school at 16 and returned regularly around my shifts to meet my girlfriend in the common room and took the opportunity to play my Infected cassette at full volume every time! ;D The best thing about it was, ( apart from me being an obnoxious fvckwit, who isn't at 16?), the kids from the year below really got into them. They'd be singing along to Slow Train to Dawn and especially the title track. I've got just about everything they've released. Jools Holland playing on Soul Mining is a master-stroke. I could literally go on all night. I still know all the words and sing along to my Si-Pod regularly. ;D Class. For me they are up there with the massively untrendy (I couldn't give a f**k- but my favourite band of all time), Simple Minds. In fact, I'm listening to Capital City Demo from Silver Box as I type! So, The The - never seen them live. Anyone else?

I saw The The live , twice First time was Matt w/tapes, and Stevo from Some Bizarre assisting....it was really more a promotional event, than an actual gig. The second was the "Versus the World" tour, 89 or 90. That was a great show, 600 capacity club, great band members, etc. "Burning Blue Soul"...a masterpiece. Not sure if people outside the US know, or even those in, that "This is the day" is used in a commercial for M+M candies...and a year or two prior, it was used in a "Cotton Fabric" commercial, promoting cotton textiles, but it was a "generic" band performing the song, and not TheThe.
also, new single available for download: www.thethe.com/
and...Simple Minds. "Sons and Fascination" and "Empires and Dance" are another set of overlooked classics. Even when they got noticed as a band, those records remained silent. It's a pity...they really had a head-start, and still so very few have noticed.

The The, by dotdot on Sept 9, 2007 10:15:36 GMT 1, The The - indeed - generally Soul Mining has aged a little but still stands head and shoulders above all other output from Matt.
The stint with Johnny did help latterly.
He hasn't been upto much of late - an am sure he's as vitriolic as ever.
Never saw him live - but did catch his label mate Jm Foetus - class.
for those of you who have no idea who or what the the is / were - step out and go and find a shop selling Soul Minig - buy it and feel free to post a thought or two - downloading via itunes is not quite what i mean here - take note

Mind Bomb is available from Play.com. Infected out of stock. I thought there were better versions with extra tracks etc.
I vaguely remember seeing them, possible in Brixton, when Johnny Marr was drafted in and MJ used a voicecoder/megaphone thing qute a lot.
I used to go to so many gigs back in the day its difficult to distinguish one from another nowadays.

I know . But love 'em mate. Always have, always will. Admittedly they went off the boil but latest album's superb. Have you heard New Gold Dream? If not, keep an open mind, have a listen (turned up nice and loud) and get back to me. ;D
