Which HD Ready TV???, by top on Feb 12, 2008 22:59:06 GMT 1, You got to check them in action to appreciate the quality..it should be fairly obvious once you see the picture quality etc.
Also depends on what else you are going to play thru them like games consoles / dvds etc re: connectivity (scart sockets / HDMI cable).
Go spend some time getting the stores to fire them up so as you can make a solid judgment on what your preferences are.
My friend just bought a monster Panasonic plasma beast hooked up with blu-ray..uses it for a monitor also.. 1080p all the way..
..the blacks are strong and colours vivid all adding up to a great package.
Bravia is cool, but the Samsung is top too.. your choice bud, but choose wisely! ;D

Cheers Top - I have been to a few shops on Tottenham Court Road to compare but I'm still none the wiser. I might just go for the Toshiba though - save myself a few quid and get a free stand too!

Easy once you weigh up all the facts!
..I always go on picture quality..aesthetics are important too, but I wouldn't want to leave the shop with the wrong TV..
..but hey, it usually comes down to what you can afford really robin!

Which HD Ready TV???, by Dellboyy on Feb 12, 2008 23:20:14 GMT 1, I don't know a lot about the toshiba, but i was looking at either the samsung or sony last year. IN the end i went for the samsung.
Picture quality wise in my opinion they are pretty much the same, the sony has better sound quality, the samsung looks better (in my opinion), and feature wise pretty much the same.
I went for the samsung as at the time there was about ยฃ500 price difference... if you want to save a few quid the samsung certainly won't disappoint, but the sony for all round i don't think you can beat!
Search the net for a few user reviews, and check out what tv and video!

how?! that's an unreal price for a 50"
saying that, I have a 32" LCD that's nice enough, though my fav bit of kit is my DLP Projector. That things a nice bit of kit if you can get it installed right. Works ok in quite light rooms but obviously better in the dark.

Which HD Ready TV???, by sahoria on Feb 13, 2008 1:28:16 GMT 1, Hello,
have sony rear projection which at the time looked fantastic but wished i held out for a while considering sony have stopped releasing the rear projections...!
best to make sure what res they go upto aswell...! 1080p are really good but have seen some 720p which i equally like. Watching planet earth in HD is experience i suggest everyone to check out as some of the images are truly amazing and made me decide going HD was right decision...
PS3 looks amazing at 720p as most games are at this res but putting up to 1080p is just as good. Have xbox 360 and even through component there is very little difference you can tell... gears of war does look amazing but tennis on the ps3 is just as good!
i agree take your time researching and remember the tvs they show in the showroom have been calibrated and have HD discs on playback specially designed for that specific model. Take time asking the people about sound quality etc..have samsung HD tv too and the picture quality is amazing but the sound is not so good unless you have speaker system set up...
if your willing HD projectors are fantastic too..have one of those and the picture quality on them are really unique and true cinema experience... there getting more cheaper now too...
cant beat watching 24 in HD on the projector or lost....s

Which HD Ready TV???, by streetgirl on Feb 13, 2008 10:25:38 GMT 1, Things to consider:
1) What system will you be running through it? Blu Ray? Sky HD? HD Dvd? Xbox? PS3? If yes to any one of those then it matters what LCD/Plasma you get, if you're going to run a basic aerial/freeview/dvd/console then the impact to picture/sound/colour/clarity etc will be minimal.
2) What kind of programmes you're going to watch - sport, action movies etc. Again, this will also be dependent on the type of receiver (HD, Freeview, aerial) but certain LCD's / Plasma adapt quicker to the quick pace of a game of footie/action movie, basically meaning the pixels change quicker and you have a clearer image.
3) Make sure you go Full HD, not HD Ready. HD Ready are going to be A LOT cheaper and more widely available, that's because they are not future proof so manufacturers are trying to get these out of their warehouses to make way for full HD, future proof, plasma models which are currently a little more spendy but will last longer on the back end.
4) I wouldn't spend too much at the smaller electricals on TC Road. Personally, I went to Comet (they don't work on commission) and spent about an hour talking to 2 or 3 different sales people and even called the manager for his opinion. Whether you're spending ยฃ500 or ยฃ1500 they value your custom. They have varying opinions as to which style/brand/type is better, but that's what you're looking for, not someone who'll agree with everything you're looking at or just point you in the direction of one model.
Take your time dude, we spent an age, opted for an LG 42" with surround sound and HD DVD and haven't looked back since. Also wangled a free 5yr warranty and 10% off the final price.

Which HD Ready TV???, by robinbanks on Feb 13, 2008 10:52:44 GMT 1, Thanks streetgirl - great info! ;D
I certainly know a lot more know than I did when I first started the thread.
As far as I can tell you can't get a 1080 (full HD) 32" - basically because it doesn't make much, if any, difference on a screen that size. The size of my flat and my budget dictates that 32" is about as far as I can stretch anyway - so I think that takes me out of the full HD equation.
I've found the Samsung for ยฃ436 and read some good reviews, although a lot of people say the sound isn't so good. I can't find much independent info on the Sony but feel I'm close to making a decision.
Reckon I'll pop in to Comet on Saturday have a chat and then find the best price on the internet.
Thanks again every one - i'll let you know what I opt for on here some time soon.
