maybe if they were really smart they should have salvaged it all, stored it in the loft and 'rediscovered it as a lost master in 10 or so years time.

Ghetto Rat in Fieldgate street----- GONE
Welding Rats next to Jamie Olivers restaurant ---- GONE
Rat with a Skill Saw ---- Gone.
Thi last one was on a 6ft x 6ft stell door in an alleyway behind the Geffrye museum. Next to El Chivo's 'girl with dead bird'. The door must have weighed at least 1/2 a ton and the hinges ., which had been sawn through, were 1 inch thick steel.
Someone must REALLY have wanted it...!!!!!

I was sad to see it go. It looked great on top of the bridge opposite the Eine. Whilst a lot of street stuff that is nicked will look great in a house or gallery this will look cramped in a lot of galleries and only really start to work somewhere with rooms like Tate Modern.
How long before someone starts to take up paving stones, selling them on e-bay and described as 'uniquely painted with Banksy's classic line of paint that has been dribbled up Tottenham Court Road, The South Bank etc'

Actually, this is a brilliant idea. Chronicle from the point that Wall and Piece left off. The release of the book, the insane auctions, the POW meltdowns, the theft and sale of public property--Its all part of the story now.

While the item could be seen as gaf, i'd argue w/ Mr. B's status it is now "public art" and therefor theft. Someone else can give it a go
