Banksy Streetart Stolen from New Orleans, by Wearology on Sept 20, 2008 14:30:00 GMT 1, let me clarify - my post was about how I thought Banksy did the pieces on peoples homes so they can be sold by the owners - now that the pieces are obviously going to be sold on the open market I am putting myself out there - what I really wanted to do was go to New Orleans find the turtle piece and take it myself - but out of respect to Mr. B and common sense ruling the day - I chose not 2 do that - but besides my family - my 2 biggest passions are turtles and Banksy , so I feel a special desire to purchase this particular piece if that opportunity does present itself -

You for 1, do not know what Banksy's intentions are/were - i doubt for one moment that he would have done any of these pieces to help some person who's house has been abandoned - Banksy would have done something more personal to them, like Santas Ghetto 07 was to help the Palestinians, rather than to allow some opportuntist to come along and steal it. He is far too clever and far too ahead of these opportunist to leave himself or the intended receipient exposed like that. I also dont think your statements are as niave as you make out, what you clearly are saying is, hell if i cant/wont do it, will someone else and i will pay you for it - which is just as bad imo. How do you know that it wasn't Banksy himself that took them? Or someone who did it to stop wankers like you doing exactly what you intended?

these pieces are put out in public, not some gallery with a red rope. These artists' put their work up on walls with no permission from building owners. Not only that, but they never take the time to think how it affects the people around them whether it's even wanted or not.
Why does the artist get the upper hand? They can have their cake and eat it too? They put up a piece with out someone's permission then I feel it's right for a person to take it without their permission. It makes the ones that do last even more special.
When all is said and done and each of these pieces are painted over, it'll be nice to see pictures of the surviving pieces pop up further down the line as a preservation.
(And I don't condone stealing a wall from a family's house, then you're stealing from them, not the artist)

Not that surprising. The owner had already buffed a previous Banksy from this wall, a boy painting flowers with the grey ghost covering them up as he went.
