Banksy Street Art • IKEA Punk, by silvermyn on Jun 1, 2011 9:12:16 GMT 1, Absolute fools, they will be stuck with that for some time to come, or sell at far less, couldn't believe they turned that offer down! The piece is in stuning condition though, one of the best walls out there for sale.
Is it in stunning "original" condition though... I thought the dealer offered a lot for a piece that was restored!
I don't know how you would go about restoring a piece like that one but how much of the original Banksy paint was actually left? 80%?

Banksy Street Art • IKEA Punk, by recycle on Jun 1, 2011 9:40:39 GMT 1, I like how they told everyone that they were collectors not dealers, they then went on to say they wouldn't sell it unless they made enough to start their own gallery.....
The 240k offer must have been fake, or those guys are real muppets, as by now they must have exhausted every avenue for a sale..... Don't believe the pre-sale nonsense either, surely a collector willing to pay up to 300k for a piece is knowledgable enough to know about this piece already.....
Thinking about it for 300k Banksy would probably come round and paint your own wall......
To this day i'm still trying to work out how cutting up a wall costs 30 grand....

Banksy Street Art • IKEA Punk, by xmyart on Jun 1, 2011 9:41:46 GMT 1, I cant decide what the dealer meant when he said "do you want to squeeze me". Im not sure he was saying do you want to try and get me to increase my offer, as he already said it was fiinal. I think he was challenging them to squeeze to see if they were that greedy. When they did, he shut them straight down.
He might have had it sold for 260k but wasnt going to give them 220k profit to earn himself 20k (10k even). Hes already minted after all.

Banksy Street Art • IKEA Punk, by balibob on Jun 1, 2011 11:03:26 GMT 1, Interesting to read some of the comments on here. The dealers are all wealthy people who make a living buying and selling items. They have time to research each item before its put in front of them and you would imagine part of this research would be who on their client list would be interested in such a piece. Just because one of them knows someone who would have bought the wall for 260kish doesn't mean they all do. If they had taken the 240k, and they were off their tits not to, the dealer would have had to pay unless the stated provedence wasn't in order (not applicable in this case) otherwise the premise of the show falls apart. I agree with a few of the peeps on here, they probably bought the hangmans rope after the show and are now gently swinging in the breeze somewhere. Muppets.

Banksy Street Art • IKEA Punk, by wizzy on Jun 1, 2011 12:51:41 GMT 1, It means to squeeze a bit more out of a dealer, can also be craftily used by the dealer to back down from a deal knowing the punter will take up the option. Personally i have never known of any reputable dealer withdrawing an offer he or she has put on the table.

Banksy Street Art • IKEA Punk, by shakey1181 on Jun 1, 2011 13:07:47 GMT 1, also, not sure i believe he had a buyer as who would want their high-end customers to know, via TV, how much they've ripped them off for?
I think he backed out personally. If he was happy to pay £240 on the show, then why not after? Unless he realised it possibly wasn't worth that much and he couldn't shift it after all.

Banksy Street Art • IKEA Punk, by stickitup on Jun 1, 2011 13:09:44 GMT 1, you right Wiz, dealers are full of tricks to get themselves in and out of deals, don't think for a second the "Squeeze" comment was anything more than a good attempt to back out of the deal knowing the two owners would try to snatch a bit more cash out of them. I would also say that the dealers probably knew who their market was and if they could/couldn't sell the thing, it may have been that all parties were aware none of the dealers would part with the cash and so constructed a good scenario to make good TV

Banksy Street Art • IKEA Punk, by twist65 on Jun 3, 2011 13:59:35 GMT 1, Entertaining programme, watched it lsat night and laughed my ass off when they walked off empty-handed - then thought about it a bit, read this thread and have to agree it sounds incredibly engineered... The programme wins by getting the Banksy exposure, the 2 prats win by getting a "geniune" bid of £240k, no doubt Mr Dealer gets a drink should the wall go for the desired fee - which it won't (I hope!)
Also, why would Tracey Emins brother need to go on a programme like that to flog some of her stuff??

Or something along these lines....
Paul's partying lifestyle came to a sudden halt in December 2007 when he had a serious accident while working as a carpenter near Cardiff. He fell 30ft down a ladder and landed on his head. He fractured his neck and was later diagnosed with epilepsy.
He admits: 'Sometimes I go to bed and I wake up on the floor. I lose control of my body. It's not a pretty sight.'
Tracey was concerned about Paul's situation, particularly since his relationship with his girlfriend collapsed soon afterwards and his money ran out. 'Tracey helped me move back nearer my mum so I could get proper care,' says Paul.
'I haven't been back to work since. It's been a burden - I was used to earning £1,000 a week - but I've managed to struggle through on disability benefits. I've had to put my partying days behind me as I'm on so much medication.
'Tracey is very generous - I have borrowed money from her in the past. But I cannot keep asking her to bail me out. We have had periods before when we haven't spoken as we are both strong characters. But I am very proud of her, and I love her more than anything in the world.'
