Banksy Street Art โข IKEA Punk, by Standard on Sept 20, 2009 10:49:04 GMT 1, It looks like I was right, around the Beddington Lane area, thought it looked familiar, I used to work near by. Soon as I get the bug fixed in the morning I'm heading over to have a better look.

Banksy Street Art โข IKEA Punk, by yeah on Sept 21, 2009 1:07:18 GMT 1, the northern end, by Therapia Lane. Sterling way industrial area.
opposite Tile Giant.
Therapia Lane tram station is a stone's throw away and a hassle free way to get there.
Frame it right and you can get the twin towers of IKEA in the background. They built IKEA on the site of an old power station and IKEA kept the 2 brick chimneys, as a statement of where they are and what used to be there. And to make sure their cultural imperialism could be rammed down our throats, they put their colours at the top and whinged about how much they cost to maintain ;D

Banksy Street Art โข IKEA Punk, by hero on Sept 21, 2009 7:35:37 GMT 1, ok, so if you look at the text, its way messier than his other text (which could be deliberate) however, there has been a conscious effort made to make the letters drip (again this could be completely deliberate) but the artist has held the can on one point for a long period of time to do it, giving blotchy drips. The base coat on the wall is poor and blotchy, knowing how banksy works, he would have had time to paint it properly. also, looking closely at the Romanywg's pics, the stencil is not lined up properly, which is very un-banksy-ish. The punk also has no eyeballs, which I find odd...I also don't think banksy would re-use the same image so soon, because this piece has no relevance to the one at the show...if it did, he'd be wearing the balaclava! my bet is on an artist called Ieak...or maybe just a copycat..but not banksy, my opinion

I think this is called over analyzing, or possibly, completely missing the point.
If this is not Banksy, I'll eat my Happy Chopper.

i thought he didn't have eyeballs because Banksy is trying to make him Zombie like and was saying shoppers at Ikea or where ever are Zombies.
i know i certainly feel like one when i go there(which is as often as i can get away without getting ordered to go)

Banksy Street Art โข IKEA Punk, by achtungbono on Sept 21, 2009 9:56:26 GMT 1, 99% sure its Banksy
its witty and contemporary - propa Banksy - it could be "in the style of banksy" but most copycats wouldnt have the depth to go for something that doesnt involve an:
1) AK47's 2) Nuclear cloud 3) 3rd rate pastiche of George Bush et al. 4) McDonalds emblems 5) etc etc etc
best hes done in a while IMHO - since maybe the Pollard street flower

The text is 'parts' of the assembly kit, so thrown up on the wall. This is the beauty and simplicity of the piece for diy rebels out there.
Excellent work on the photo's Romany you've got some serious form.

Banksy Street Art โข IKEA Punk, by achtungbono on Sept 21, 2009 10:04:02 GMT 1, the location shows thought - i..e the background has the IKEA towers in view & is sandwiched between advertising billboards
the use of a box in the image is a clue - one of Banksys tools of the trade so to speak.
