ยฃ3.5 hammer for the parla
and ยฃ13K for the neate.
Schoony did really well. Can't really remember the exact number but I think it was over ยฃ2K? maybe

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by edcase on Apr 6, 2011 22:54:15 GMT 1, Totally agreed, was there this evening as I was in the area, the whole event was shoddy IMHO. Very low in-room bidding, and indeed a huge amount of lots unsold. Even the auctioneer was embarrassed. Worst moment for me however was the Neate - a guy had a winning bid of about 8k held on the hammer for about 45 seconds while Mary tried to reach another potential bidder on the phone! The auctioneer said 'well, we have a bid in the room, we should sell' to which Mary shot him the look of death....15 seconds later someone else bid in the room and it eventually went for ยฃ12k. If I'd been the low bidder I'd have up and walked out on the spot - disgustingly unprofessional.
Fingers crossed they won't bother again after tonight.
On the flipside, massive credit to Liam for the charity auction, which was the highlight of the event for me. Well done.

Heard that embarrasingly long pause / cock up on saleroom Ed, shitty of them to wait for her and imo he should have banged it down in the room.

I think this was for the Nick Walker TMA?
He was pretty embarassed. Trying to say that the room bidder have maybe waited enough and the phone bidder should have let an absentee bid.

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by edcase on Apr 6, 2011 23:18:38 GMT 1, Pretty sure it was the Neate. Either way, unacceptable in my opinion. Everyone wants to get the best price, but above all else the auction room should be professional.

Edit: who's responsibility would it be in this case to make sure it was more professional? Did the auctioneer have the authority to hammer at ยฃ8k and not wait?

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Brushstrokes 75 on Apr 6, 2011 23:38:50 GMT 1, If it was on the neate. Lower estimate was ยฃ8K so it would have sold at that price (so it would be really cruel)
If it was on the NW, it's a bit different if the reserve was more than ยฃ8K and the lot wouldn't have then been sold.
There's no way to tell.
Anyway, the auctioneer always have the authority to hammer. I've seen many times auctioneer wait a bit for a lost telephone bidder but they never wait that long.
