They basically told me.. we ship with glass and frame and all, like you paid for or we take it out and just ship you the print....

Some couriers don't insure art framed with glass but it is the sellers (auction house) responsibility to get your goods to you in one piece. If it does not arrive with you in the condition stated then they must refund you. Just pay using your credit card so you get protection.
Actually Kimble you are wrong on this account. If you organise shipping, then the liability lies entirely with the shipper, as they were contracted by you and not the auction house. Thus any transit damage is not the fault of the house.
This is why auction houses do not offer shipping as a service. Rather they will give you multiple options for carriers who you employ.
Therefore it's vital that as the purchaser you are very specific on your insurance needs.

I also asked the question about the insurance and they assured me that the shipping company is liable for the piece.

Fortunately, the piece came largely unscathed. Dusted the glass bits off with a micro-fiber cloth.
For a second there it looked like I had bought the "snowing" version of flags.

The glass was all taped down so it didn't shatter all over the place. Just cracked into a million little cracks.
the damage was just a few scratches in a couple places that I doubt were there before. On the flip side, it is still probably one of the least damaged flags I have seen. No dents, no fingerprints, no smudges. Just a couple scratches in the black..
I mean what can ask for from Drewatts? I don't want to ship it back too badly, but it still sucks it's damaged.
I hate this stuff!

They also were not upfront about everything being acid free with the frame job, they said "oh yes, it was framed with entirely acid free materials."
I can tell from the mat they used this was not the case. Not to mention the raw wood from the frame was exposed (not lined with acid free lining tape.
They charged me a damn arm and a leg for all this shipping too.
oh well. Guess I should just be happy I don't have bigger issues with it.
and in the end, it is only a piece of art. Bigger worries in the world going on!
