Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Happy Shopper on Nov 20, 2013 15:42:16 GMT 1, It's been talked about a few times on here, and quite recently too. I don't think one has been for sale before though... first I've seen of one actually existing!!
If there's APs was there also a full edition?
Makes me wonder what Banksy was up to in 2012, with the Gorilla prints and these never making a full release to the public... odd!

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by lee3 on Nov 20, 2013 17:28:45 GMT 1, >>>If there's APs was there also a full edition?<<<
No, just the 16 were made available. That's a very aggressive estimate range and I would be stunned to see the reserve remain at 50. If the consignor keeps the reserve at 50 (which is a ~62.5k final price including premium), I'd speculate a buy-in but I've been wrong more times than I can count.
I'm just trying to poke around that site and can't seem to find the premium page. I presume they are in the 25% range but can anyone point me to the details?
That barcode is the one that has always caught my eye or so I thought until I looked at photos a little closer from the Cargo show last evening. The grey barcode below from Cargo is different from this grey barcode that is on offer at dreweatts/Bloomsbury. That grey (as opposed to white on offer) leopard and barcode cage consumes more of the canvas. It also makes sense because the cargo show would be '00 and the one on offer is dated '02. It also appears that the barcode from Cargo is tagged in the bottom left which is atypical too.
So that makes a pair on grey, one at Glasgow and 5 at existencilism for a minimum of at least 8 out there. It also discredits the last line of the description ("the only known version with a grey background so far seen by the market.") not that it matters at all as that should do quite well with that estimate range imo.:

Soup can colour ways are editions of 10, rarer isnt always better.

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by lee3 on Nov 21, 2013 20:55:46 GMT 1, I am not sure sure, if I were spending 50k+ on a Banksy and was faced with a Kate or this, I'd go for this any day. At 16 it's rarer that the edition of 25 canvases and larger too! It's all relative and the nice things is we'll know soon enough when the market casts its verdict. Personally, considering what this cost a year ago, the low estimate is a giant leap of faith in my eyes. Especially when the most recent hammer for the artist was an ~85k laugh now canvas edition 5 that was over 10 years old at a primary house. But, that in and of itself is the auction game; promise consignors the moon to win the lot which draws all that web traffic which in turn helps the house find everything else in that sale a bid. And if no absentees are north of 50, then tell the consignor that the interest is not what the house had expected in the hopes the consignor lowers the reserve.
60k+/$100k on the low end of the estimate range (including premium) is an astronomical sum by any definition for a print yet this market continues to amaze me. Usually, it's the other way around in that they try to establish a teaser estimate to draw in buyers but I'm guessing (given the estimate range) that the consignor controlled the arm wrestling. That house (dreweatts/Bloomsbury) really has nothing to lose whereas the primary houses would have a different opinion almost certainly. Please note this post if full of speculation and conjecture and I wish the seller well but calling it as I see it. Ultimately, it's a bit of a treasure and the wealth divide is growing the world over so theoretically demand is increasing by the day. We can all imagine the silliness that will ensue should that piece hammer high and I will be the first to admit my foolishness.

There are a hell of a lot of better Banksys out there in my opinion, but what do I know. I do know that if I had 50k+ knocking about to spend on art and ended up with a single, mid-sized screen print of a run of 16 that I didn't even rate then I would have to issue myself a swift kick to the bollocks (if that is even possible)

Sort of weird, but makes me think he only sold them for a purpose, like bailing POW out or for a charity (did someone say these were sold for charity once? It would make sense.)
