Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by nacional on Jun 18, 2008 14:05:26 GMT 1, I am very happy for all the artists, art galleries and individuals who sold and purchased art yesterday.
I like/love Beejoir, SPQR, Dicey, Walker, Banksy, Eelus, and, yes, even Dr D (funny prints). I have some stuff by all of them, am very pleased that they all are doing well artistically and financially. I love to look at the stuff I have, and, i will admit it, like the fact that some art i have purchased has appreciated in value.
Well done to all...hello clouds, hello sky....group hug time...

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by Jonny Wednesday on Jun 18, 2008 14:30:53 GMT 1, For a forum who's members puport to being art lovers and not interested in the money, 23 pages about what fetched what price aint bad!!!
That sums it up for me. I joined this forum to learn primarily about banksy from people who jointly know a lot on the subject. I wanted to buy, so I've spent my time reading and learning before sticking my toe in the water. I'm having to buy off the secondary market. I have to work for a living, so I try to be careful how I spend my spare cash. I, like most people here dont want to get 'mugged off'. I'm not in it to change my career and become some 'wheeler and dealer in art'. I buy something because I want it to go on the wall and enjoy it. If it goes up in value - great!, if I loose a bit - then so be it!. Through the forum I've been able to learn about other artists and their work - I thought thats what this was about. Some of you out there really need to get a life!

if anyone is looking at insuring their collection I strongly recommend you give him a call. He runs a very professional operation and offers great customer service.
Cheers Funster.

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by rosstierney on Jun 18, 2008 16:18:08 GMT 1, nice varied read for a change
pieces containing angels, bombs, cherubs, guns, tits, war & wings still doing well considering the bashing they get on here
really liked this mudwig piece, very kaws esque:
sorry dmandpenfold, but had to laugh at this:
yeh but then someone pays a fortune for 3 plastic towers from Airfix...?
it's just three shots of a single tower
and finally . . .
had to laugh at jboy who was quick off the mark to put his mona simpson up for sale

I don't know who states unequivocally that they don't care about money and it's all about art, but unless you're one of the lucky few who have more money than time, this will just never be the case. I love art. I love studying it, staring at it, and learning about it obsessively. However, we're all greedy on some level and to deny it is an outright lie. I watch the auctions habitually and in fact I think attending them are some of the most exiting times an art lover can experience. There is just something special about watching the revolving easel with work that you will never own but get to appreciate and watch how the bidding public react. It's a learning experience and it's a blast and you'll NEVER forget the first time you raise your paddle at auction.
It's a pleasure in life when your intution is proved right over time and the right art purchases here and there will change the quality of your life not only while you enjoy it in your home but on the back end of your life for early retirement or to get your kid through school. The auctions are the one place art lovers can see a live sale a few times a year as opposed to every day with your stocks. Further, imagine how distasteful and ugly your brokerage statement would look on a wall?
We're all motivated by money to varrying degrees and I've never once tried to hide it. As someone mentioned above, familiarizing yourself with the pricing certainly helps you make an educated puchase leaving more cash for the things that reall matter in life. That's my very long winded way of saying I've never once held myself out as an "art lover who is not interested in the money" but I certainly don't feel inferior to the precious few on this planet who can afford to be in that group.
I would guess (not knowing how many members there are at this site) that there are a maximum of 5 members here that can afford to be an art lover that is not interested in the money. Most in that crowd that I've met rarely use the internet as it is and certainly have far better things to do with their time than blog.

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by Harveyn on Jun 18, 2008 16:56:49 GMT 1, Great post Lee3.
Having never been to an auction I can only 100% agree in theory. Having read this thread and the comments from other experienced auction goers it has only increased my desire to attend one.
Its very obvious from your posts your passion and knowledge about art but its equally obvious your commercial awareness of the market place and your interest in that element of collecting art. I personally think both sit very comfortably together.

I'm sorry it didn't sell - I hope that they haven't got a BI charge system in place - or you'll owe them money!
I suppose the auction house YOU work for WOULD know what they are doing? I used to work for Sotheby's years ago, so only someone with inside knowledge of auctioneers practices would speak so knowledgeably as you, nor would someone spout so much sour grapes as you. Employee of a rival urban art department, getting possessive about your own bandwagon by any chance??? I wonder....
For a first attempt it wasn't bad, leave them alone.

He started a thread about money....... because thats all he ever talks about MONEY!
I posted saying no arguing lets just enjoy...but people cant help themselves and i dont think its ever going to change. People that say they dont check the prices out of their stuff are lying as far as im concerned. Even artists do it, they have to see what the market rate is for a piece to set a price on it

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by guest2 on Jun 18, 2008 20:26:50 GMT 1, ... Luc Price might be pleased but he certainly won't get carried away as an example, he's a level headed guy who is just into what he does as is Matt (SPQR).
Lucs an Intelligent guy cocteau and his feet will remain firmly where they belong. 1st and formost luc is graff artist and his lifeblood is painting on walls. As is Sweet toof, Rowdy, Sickboy etc. No-one hits the streets harder than these guys and I say this as a regular poster. I'm in awe of those guys and so are the whole graff community.
