Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by snausages on Oct 14, 2008 19:41:16 GMT 1, no offence, but prices have been poor for a good while now, and everyone keeps on using excuses like the credit crunch, and stuff like that things went a bit mad a year ago, things were bought at vastly inflated prices, and now people are realising that what they bought with a view for investment aint going to sky rocket they way they were hoping... ...everyone has created so much hype about everything amongst ourselves, but the market for this stuff aint as big as everyone thinks That's what I've been saying. All these artist are pretty young too, it's not like they don't have years in front of them to make more art to consume.
Bonhams has a good track record buy if we see any hiccups there won't look good. I'm more curious as to how galleries are going to handle this situation. They raised their prices overnight when an artist did well, will they drop them just as fast now?
I still wouldn't mind getting a few originals by a couple peeps here but not at current gallery prices.

I like Matt's work and am very pleased he did well with that piece, but that KB was a bargain imo.

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by raiden on Oct 14, 2008 19:49:48 GMT 1, I'd disagree with bloodbath or total bubble burst, but I will say this auction so far seems to suggest a weaker market looking for value and being much more discriminating. A few artists went higher than expected.
You basically saw the artists who had most meteoric rises in prices suffered price corrections - while artists this board continually has identified as not receiving the credit they were due saw their pieces go above estimates.

Yes, well done to SPQR, but Kelsey Brookes is a huge talent and it seems criminal that he should sell for less.
