nice piece but 6-8k estimate sounds absurd...this is a 2008 piece? how much originally?

Agreed, I'm a huge fan of Adam's work, but didn't like this piece either, so was surprised. Much prefer the other one earlier that sold for Β£7k.

Seems like a lot of the stuff in this auction has been done within the last year

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by snausages on Oct 14, 2008 20:04:19 GMT 1, If you re selling pieces like this why would you choose this auction, at this time, with the stock exchanges at an all time low with consumer confidence right behind? These people probably committed to consigning these pieces late spring or early summer, takes a long time to set these up.
And being a sub par auction house they probably offered sellers better fees to entice them? I would hope anyway.
And well I think the first Drewatts auction didn't do this bad so people probably hoped for better.
...apparently the first Drewatts auction was considered a success and brought in over Β£800,000 so blaming it just on the auction house doesn't make complete sense: www.bristolmedia.co.uk/diary/2008/10/2/urban-art-sale

i never understood why people would pay 8k for a banksy print when u could pick up a nice og from pretty much any other 'urban' artist at the same price

Looks like a study rather than a full work. I think that 4.8k is probably a fair price by the time you have added commissions etc. I like his geisha canvas but again the reserve is high.

This is what some people have been banging on about for some time, that Neate, Banksy and Faile in particular have been most likely to 'stay the course' and some artists that might've been considered peripheral have fallen at the first (I apologise for the nags analogy?.
In times of trouble the market becomes more selective and the cream rises to the top - this is, rightly or wrongly, at this price point an investment and one that might be more secure than others.
