I think their prices suffered because they were each one section of a much larger piece - and i think the full piece was more than the sum of its parts.
The full piece was done for the evolving styles show...

I think the piece that sold works better by itself than the one that was passed. I'd seen the catalogue and had considered putting in a cheeky offer for the first one - but i'd considered £1500 to be cheeky. I wish i'd done it.

That's a pretty big sum for a glorified autograph - there can't be too many people around who can doodle on an A4 sheet for a minute and make it worth £12k.
Having said that I am sure the buyer is delighted at having their own Hirst original.
