Bloomsbury's and Dreweatts are one now - so anything that Bloomsbury failed to sell will go in to this auction - and vice versa
Nevertheless not a very impressive selection of works and will no doubt have a negative impact on how the Urban Contemporary auction goes on the 21st October.

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Deleted on Sept 21, 2010 10:22:16 GMT 1, I like the randomness of Dreweatts Urban Auctions. Giving exposure to up and coming and not so well known artists is a good thing in my eyes. However, this does seem a little strange. Having so many prints by so few artists, can't be good for people interested in selling their own prints soon. but for buyers what a golden opportunity. Dreweatts are in the buisness of making money and they will make money from this.

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by snausages on Sept 21, 2010 15:48:06 GMT 1, That Micallef Girl in Red Dress is cute but that estimate is pushing it isnt it?. True, but compared to what Laz was charging for it about 2-3 years ago it's a "bargain."
Back then I emailed Laz about "We Come in Peace" they told me it would be ยฃ4000 + VAT and shipping. (over $8000 usd at the time) Uh no thanks โ I bought a Barry Mcgee painting instead. Good thing, now the print is estimated at a whopping 800-1200. At least Laz cashed in while they could.
Funny to see everybody pooh-pooh this auction. Every week dozens of these prints are bandied about on here and ebay for stupid money. Why wouldn't Drewatts see a market there? All prints gathered together under one roof for your convenience. Win win.

+1.
Imagine, all what we thought were crappy prints we had under the sofa are being auctioned in a auction house! Whoopee!
Seriously though, its a print auction, what did people expect?

Think she still does the Urban art sales, not sure about this, but would make sense.

There are numerous fees; a fairly accurate equation is that the house keeps 1/3 of the total price (including premium) and the balance goes to the seller. The house will keep a higher percentage for lower priced works and a lower % in the case of the premier lots.

Seller pays in the region of 15% of hammer price + vat, + a small % of the hammer price as insurance premium... and also a flat fee (say , ยฃ75- 100) for the catalogue listing. All sellers fees are negotiable...the higher its likely to sell for, the better you can negotiate and therefore the lower your fees..
Buyer pays hammer price + buyers premium (usually in the 20-25% region) + VAT + droit de suite if applicable...
Of course it varies from place to place, but thats roughly what to expect.

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by wizzy on Sept 23, 2010 7:59:59 GMT 1, When i last enquired at Dreweatts approx 18 months or so back it worked out to roughly 25% commission for the seller all in, with no leeway at all even when i tried to push for some, i do have contacts who get a better rate there so maybe they hate me or maybe its because i have never bought there under my own name. Phillips de Pury / Quittenbaum / Bonhams et al usually charge me considerably, considerably less.

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Pattycakes on Sept 24, 2010 5:31:21 GMT 1, it depends what you are consigning and who you speak to. The better the piece the more will be given away by the house in order to get it in for sale. As a rule buyers premiums are set and do not change.

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by wizzy on Sept 24, 2010 7:58:27 GMT 1, Not knocking DNFA Printguru but just stating the facts as i find them, Dreweatts have been the only house unwilling to offer me any kind of a decent deal in the many many years i have bought but mainly sold at auctions worldwide perhaps they dislike me for some reason but i care not as there are plenty of others with whom i have a good working relationship. I hope they have a good sale anyhow.

Bonham's have always been good to me also. Actually the weakest service I've had has been from Christie's, it just depends who you deal with in the house I suppose.

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by wizzy on Sept 25, 2010 13:25:56 GMT 1, Not bad, just not good, i sell and buy a lot of Design works and also Fine Antiques via Auction houses and have been in the game for decades which i think is long enough to know what to sell and where, i think with Dreweatts they were just getting on to the "Urban" market then and it was Mary's baby if you like, i would still buy there if the piece was right but would not entertain selling there. Christies and Sothebys for Antiques and PDP, Dorotheum, Quittenbaum and Artcurial mostly for Design and Art i find works. I always make a point of speaking with the head honcho.
