Beejoir Oil Cans, by Guest on Nov 29, 2009 12:44:30 GMT 1, email from Beejoir and SOS
Just a short mail out to say that all of the prints ordered were shipped out this weekend, due to the fact that this entire country has no shipping tubes, we've either shipped them flat packed or in something that resembles a large pipe bomb. One thing is certain, Royal Mail can't dent these!
On a side note, we've got one last Oil Can that is being released today, with 100% of profits going to the Mercy Centre, we've released it at a U.S friendly time after Jon and Chris accidentally (drunkenly) put the edition out the morning after Thanks Giving.
Very sorry about that!
The next prints out will be by MauMau, and should be the Sexy Pole Dancing Copper.... but who knows!

Beejoir Oil Cans, by notworthit on Nov 29, 2009 15:49:13 GMT 1, Incredible that these have sold out!
I saw this the other day and it couldn't be more apt than for this release;
"The market is so dumb that it believes anything you put in front of it. It simply likes what it sees other people liking. It buys what other people buy. The market isnโt about quality; itโs a self-replicating organism that assigns values, fetishises desire, charts hits, lauds junkie-like behaviour, enforces pecking orders and creates ambience." - Jerry Saltz: New York magazine

I'm not trying to dig this particular print or artist out, but Jerry Saltz is absolutely bang on the money.
[Thread hijack]
Much of what is being released nowadays is very unoriginal, with millions of variations on the same themes, which is pointless and a blatant attempt to jump on the bandwagon, and cater for what the market expects. There is very little 'art' going on, and a lot of trying to play/manipulate the market to make ยฃยฃยฃ
The buyers/collectors are just as bad, with frenzied rushes to buy pieces they would sneer at, if they did not think they could cash in on later.
In 10 years from now, a whole bunch of art/prints that are currently exchanging hands for premium (maybe not so much in the past 12 months) will be worth very little of what they are today.
[/thread hijack]
Again, the above is not especially inspired by Beejoir, but that quote really hits the nail on the head.
Remember, this is just my ยฃ0.02 and I could be full of it.

i think it probably has more to do with the fact that they look like soupcans and are in a range of very attractive family friendly colours that brighten up the house all for under 75 english pounds
Jerry sounds like an exciteable kind of chap though with all that fetishises junkie pecking

Beejoir Oil Cans, by Guest on Nov 29, 2009 17:53:44 GMT 1, If this was a 400 quid screenprint i could understand the negativity this is getting, but its 75, and released in a small edition in great colours, wheres the problem. and maybe this will sell at cost or less in 10 years

It's only a few that are posting negative comments multiple times. I notice that someone that left a negative post went on to bag one...
They can't please everyone with every release but I think this is going to look great on the wall next to a banksy coloured can. You might not like the image but you can't fault sos on pricing and keeping the editions low.
Anyone that has one of those jazzy ones and has a change of mind pm me. I will pay a fee on top of the cost price for your troubles.

Just to clarify, I agree with this 100%
ยฃ75 is a great price, and a low edition to boot. Personally, my comments were aimed at the industry in general (and the more expensive 'flipping' side of it) rather than Beejoir and the gang. I should probably have started a new thread though...mods, feel free to move.

Beejoir Oil Cans, by nacional on Dec 1, 2009 19:06:06 GMT 1, I have obtained a rather spiffy variation on the Beejoir Oil Can print. Could I ask some generous forumer to post the pics if I mail them to him/her. I have tried and tried but am too much of a Gumbo to work out how to post myself. After the pic has been posted I will go into details about the piece......

I'm not a massive fan of these, but I like the dollar background. Works nicely and adds a little something to the aesthetic.
Looks nice and big as well. Now...if only the text on the oil can wrapped around the can...

It did say 3rd dec on their website but then they changed it to email them and about 5mins later all gone in a rather sneeky stylee due to not having a good enough webpage. Keep an eye out for some ap's.
