The London Police π¬π§ TLP β’ Street Artists , by RecoatGallery on Jun 2, 2010 22:25:05 GMT 1, Recoat Gallery presents Co-Laboratory, a group exhibition from artists who work in partnership to create their artwork
Co-Laboratory opens Friday 18th June 2010 7-10pm, it then runs till Sunday 23rd July.
Partnership and collaboration in the creation of art is fairly unusual due to the difficulty and compromises it involves. Yet βCo-Laboratoryβ sees Recoat curate an entire show produced by no less than eight artist partnerships from all over the world. The show comprises of originals and prints that have an added layer of quality and intrigue due to being created by two talented individuals. Participants include Aitch and Saddo, Alto Contraste, Microbo and Bo130, Motel7 and Vinnie Nylon, Peskimo, Syrkus and Rekor, Tado, and The London Police.
ARTIST OVERVIEW:
Aitch and Saddo are a young couple from Romania who are now living in Berlin. Aitch is an illustrator and Saddo a Street Artist. They created their first collaborative piece for an exhibition recently. They were invited to create more work together for this show based on the work as it showed such merit. Their work is bizarre yet gorgeous, a mash up of shapes, colours and moods, almost like a warped dream.
Alto*Contraste β or just A*C β is a couple: Lee and Lou. They met each other in 1996 at the Art School where they studied in SΓ£o Paulo. Together, not only have they created a beautiful family with two kids, they also created A*C, a name that they have used while creating stencil work in the streets of SΓ£o Paulo since 2005. They have gone on to exhibit all over the world.
Microbo and Bo130 are a world famous Graffiti couple. They are now based in Italy but regularly travel to paint in cities all over the world together. They both work as designers too and have created work that has been exhibited internationally. Their work is complimentary and organic in style.
South African, Motel7 and English, Vinnie Nylon started collaborating while painting graffiti pieces together. This will be the first time they create gallery pieces together. But based on their spray-painted pieces that depict 50βs advertisement inspired characters, it will be interesting to see what they produce!
Since meeting at university in Leeds, Jodie and David saw eye to eye on robots, kittens and evil monkeys. They began to work under the name of Peskimo in 2004, and together they have crafted a vast array of characters and creations that have appeared on T-shirts, magazines, newspapers, billboards and nightclub walls for the likes of Sony, MTV, and the BBC.
Syrkus and Rekor are another couple who work together on their artwork. They met at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in first year in 2000 and have worked and lived together for nearly 10 years. They have teamed up on many projects including setting up Recoat Gallery, creating artwork for the Hinterland and T in the Park Festivals and designing covers for GUM Magazine.
Tado graduated from Leeds Met in 2002 and immediately set out to carve a niche for themselves in the world of commercial illustration. They work so hard, and it shows with what they have already achieved; their first solo show was in LA with Kidrobot and theyβve worked for the likes of MTV, Nike and Selfirdges.
The London Police are an English street art duo that has worked together for over 10 years, exhibiting in over 35 countries in that time. Their LADS characters have become iconic symbols of the genre.
Hope to see you there!

The London Police π¬π§ TLP β’ Street Artists , by The BLDG on Jul 22, 2010 17:20:05 GMT 1, The London Police put on a pretty amazing show at the BLDG for the fine folks in Kentucky. I finally have a chance to spread the love to the rest of the world. Below is a short video on the week leading up to the show. There are still a few original show pieces and prints left from exhibit. March on down to www.BLDGrefuge.com and have a look for yourself.
