Creased GIWTBB, by jB on Oct 17, 2007 4:32:06 GMT 1, After much anticipation here stateside I finally received my GIWTBB from POW laying by my door (I guess no signature needed?) and to my demise after opening it both bottom corners are bent to the point where if i bent it any more it may flake off.
Just bent to shit!!!
My question to you all is....did anyone else have this luck with their print and suggestion on contacting pow ?
I am just gutted after the month of waiting and getting my first POW print and having it bent (obviously).
It's such a beauty of a print, it's just a shame that it will be at least another month (if not longer) before having that bad boy hanging on the wall

Creased GIWTBB, by rkitek on Oct 17, 2007 4:50:25 GMT 1, Sorry to hear the bad news. I've received creased prints from POW in the U.S. before and they've always been very good about exchanging them -- though it can take some time.
If I were you, I would send them an e-mail explaining the situation and attaching photos of the damage. Look in the contacts section on the POW web-site about who to address the inquiry (unless someone on the board knows exactly to whom it should be sent).
Good luck with it.

Creased GIWTBB, by absyrd on Oct 17, 2007 6:44:35 GMT 1, It is nearly impossible to avoid bending a few corners on that kind of paper. I don't think packing it any better would do it as it was in there completely stationary.
The corner damage was probably done in the process of putting the things into the tubes, so they need to smack some people around to save some time.

I feel your pain all too well JB... good luck and I'm sure it will all work out fine...
+1 for your pain and suffering

Creased GIWTBB, by absyrd on Oct 17, 2007 8:45:56 GMT 1, Out of all the things I have purchased in the last year, the best tube I've gotten is probably from Black Market. It was like a foot in diameter, thicker than POW tubes, and almost killed my ankle-bitin' puppy when I dropped it on him by accident.
Cutting shipping costs really doesn't help anyone; it wastes the buyer's time and patience and makes the shipper waste more time than it is worth.

To prevent the corner bends all you have to do is wrap the print in oversized kraft paper so that the ends are buffered. Sticking those big sponges at the ends have themselves caused bends! I have no clue about printing but I have sent many prints all over the world and not once did I hear about a print being in less than stated condition.

Creased GIWTBB, by melttheguns on Oct 17, 2007 16:41:18 GMT 1, my micallef has a slightly bent corner also. it was the foam being stuffed into the tube that did it unfortunately. luckily i was able to bend it back and it doesnt look too bad because its very close to the deckled edge. you can only notice it upon very close inspection. i was a little dissapointed of course, but the print is awesome, and i just sucked it up because i don't plan on flipping it, but rather framing it, and the return seems like way too much of a hassel for a little bent corner which doesnt look too bad anyways...

I am not expecting a quick response, but my email has been sent out. I am too going to frame it, but just knowing that these creases aren't minor will bug me everytime I look at it if I didnt send it back.

Creased GIWTBB, by atkuefler on Oct 17, 2007 17:19:27 GMT 1, I have sent back numerous prints to many galleries... This is something POW expects and has to deal with. Send it back. That is the nature of the business they are in. As a customer you should be given a print that is in perfect condition, thats what you paid for. I had to send the Sepia back a couple of times and I had to send a Neate back three times before it worked out. They are understanding.... Do you think Laz would be happy if he bought an original at a auction and when they shipped it they messed it up??? I can promise you he would send it back and demand his money back.... No biggy, just do it!

Creased GIWTBB, by GB on Oct 17, 2007 18:23:22 GMT 1, does this mean that POW send out a new copy of the print for every damaged item??? if so does this mean that they keep a set number of prints aside, 10% or so of a print run, due to likelihood of damage??? surely it would make more sense like many of you have said to invest in better packaging!?!?!

PS been on the board for a few weeks but waiting till the right moment came around to post! thanks very much for spreading knowledge!

Creased GIWTBB, by baracass on Oct 17, 2007 21:14:04 GMT 1, G'day Gary. Welcome!
Not sure whether they print more but it'd make sense to since the artist couldn't always be able to get there quickly to sign more copies as the damaged ones are returned. The wait for replacements would start to blow out you'd have to imagine. When I took my damaged GIWTBB in they ripped off the corner with the print number and then wrote the same number onto the one that was on the top of the pile that were ready to be numbered and sent.
They also said that when prints are returned damaged they can only claim back the cost of the materials which makes sense. Since they can claim for damages they are probably saving on the cost of tubes in the long run i 'spose.

Creased GIWTBB, by atkuefler on Oct 17, 2007 21:21:47 GMT 1, Typically they print extras becuase this happens probably everytime they release something. They leave them unnumbered and then fill in your number on the replacement. If they go through all of the extras(i.e. Sepia Morons) then they have to print more and wait for the artist to sign them again. Thats why it took months for the replacement.

My ones creased, but since I'm banned It'll do! I think the paper is too thin, JD is better quality print all round.
