Oh D*face..., by nacional on Nov 30, 2007 12:58:32 GMT 1, Just because it's a trademark doesn't mean it has to be continually utilised. Don't get me wrong, I love D*Face, but it's just about time the guy did something a bit different. After all the bigging up, I was expecting something innovative and exciting, not just more of the same old same old. Comparison with Dolk doesn't really hold water, just cause one person is stale and a bit dull doesn't justify another person being stale and a bit dull as well...

I like some Dface stuff, but the wings are getting old IMO. The comparison with Dolk was a commentary on his habit of slapping a big ugly tag front and center of his images just like Dface slaps wings on all of his images.

Oh D*face..., by gozgoz on Nov 30, 2007 13:21:16 GMT 1, And it worked for Kaws. Despite all the detractors, people are still eating off Kaws hands even though all he has is essentially sticking his signature " 8x x8 " on eveything iconic, from Astroboy to Mickey Mouse.
So i guess it'll work for Dface.

Oh D*face..., by Harveyn on Nov 30, 2007 13:28:23 GMT 1, Whilst I agree that their is a certain amount of repetition in Dface's work I still think each release offers something slightly different. Also in the context of my own collection I find the diversity is created more by the different artists than by each artist themselves (a Matt Small is a Matt Small type thing).
Saying that I think my DFace Kant Complain canvas and my HRH Lenticular offer me something completely different.
At the end of day its great we all have different tastes and opinions with no single one being either right or wrong.

Oh D*face..., by nacional on Nov 30, 2007 13:44:21 GMT 1, The fence groans, sways from side to side and finally settles down under the weight of Harveyn sitting on it.
Of course we all have different tastes, but its a non-comment. Its like saying we have to breath in order to live.
However, the fact that we all have different tastes does not mean that we all have good taste. There are such things as good and bad: it is generally accepted by people who are wiser than me that Banksy is a good at art, whilst at the same time it is generally accepted by people who are wiser than me that Hutch sucks (apart from rollergirl of course, which leaves me as atremble as that cheerleader avatar)
I will not add IMO as its all obviously IMO and on this forum we should not hesitate to voice our opinions just because we want another respect or fear a negative.

Oh D*face..., by Harveyn on Nov 30, 2007 13:56:19 GMT 1, Nacional - I have never sat on a fence in my life. Far to painful. My statement was clear. I like DFaces recent works.
My statement was also clear about opinions in that people can have different opinions and thats okay. So I am not sure which fence I am suppose to be sitting on.
I believe that art can be deemed good or bad depending on each individuals taste and I disagree that if your opinion is one or the other that it can be concluded you have good or bad taste.
Simple - IMO

Oh D*face..., by nacional on Nov 30, 2007 14:03:33 GMT 1, The point is not if you don't like it don't buy it, but why is a very talented artist churning out the same idea over and over and over again with only a very slight variation on a theme that was interesting, but is now dull and lifeless.
A DFace ( the take on the Velvet Underground Warhol/Banana album, sometimes called "Any Old War...") is one of my 3 favourite things that I have on my wall, along with the Beejoir original Greed canvas and a wonderful painting by Costigliolo (google him if you want).
The point is that he should be going beyond and doing something that takes him more than a couple of minutes to knock off.

Oh D*face..., by goodbyekitty on Nov 30, 2007 14:06:04 GMT 1, Everyone has an opinion on it.... like it or don't like it.... (put simply of course!) But I agree with graeme501, if you don't like it then others who do have a different taste in art to you and vice versa. It's not about sitting on the fence but about recognising that liking a piece of art is subjective and we're not all gonna agree all of the time.

Oh D*face..., by nacional on Nov 30, 2007 14:14:58 GMT 1, A shell suit is bad taste. A Valentino suit is good taste.
A Ford Mondeo is bad taste. An Alfa Romeo Spider is good taste.
Posh is bad taste. Kylie (bless her...) is good taste.
River Plate is good taste. Boca Juniors is bad taste.
Convince me otherwise... Or even propose something otherwise....
Let's have a good debate of a very interesting concept.

Oh D*face..., by nacional on Nov 30, 2007 14:32:11 GMT 1, Agreed.
Think back to POW a couple of years ago, the Poison Mary Banksy print (if it was called that). Alongside the print they ran a little sentence that said something like "And no one wants to buy this print. Really. Absolutely no one".
Now it is spoken of a being a seminal early print, blah blah blah...
Not quite a couple of days, but the point is valid.

Oh D*face..., by goffy on Nov 30, 2007 14:37:23 GMT 1, Same old, same old. But D*Face has his admirers and at the moment will always sell. Although a fair few of these will not doubt end up on the ebay, and I don't think there will be a rush to buy them. Personally, I don't like them and wouldn't have them near my walls. But hey! that's just me.
