Space Invader at Laz, by jome on Oct 7, 2007 17:21:29 GMT 1, Hi my names Laz, I simply make my prices up now. ยฃ3000? How much? Put an extra ยฃ6000 on. Popa needs a new buff of the old head. Keep it looking right nice and shinetastic. Banksy? Oh, right no sorry If you want a Banksy come along to my office and shout how much you have to spend into the mouth piece. ยฃ3000! Ha, no way! f**k Off! ยฃ20,000. Okay, come on up the stairs. Right, quick before the fool comes up, stick those two self portraits away under the table. Quick, pull out all those Christ With Shopping Bags. Blow the dust off and wack an extra ยฃ2000 on em. Hi, how are you? Yes, yes we have loads available. Cash is better...Thanks. Right how are we going to market the new invader show? Ah, let me think....I know lets price them ยฃ1000000000 higher than the ones on his site. Ripping people off? No, it comes with my thumb print and a hand job. Laz = bAH!
Funny... but don't forget art is business for gallery For them selling art is like selling cars or potatoes.
Though I am not sure your diatribe could be relevant for Invader pieces there. Have a look at the prices at his last show in Cologne + he has been doing art and good exhibitions in good galleries and museums for more than ten years now...so I am not sure the laz effect is very important there.
Could be more relevant for some artists whose original pieces were hardly sold 400 pounds last year and whose prices now reach 10k for the smallest ones... or a certain Mr B. who all of you helped become billionaire in 3 years ! That is the market effect : I wish I had bought original piece from him when I saw them at 300 euros in an exhibition in 2003...nobody wanted them at this time .
Art market can go crazy but don't blame the artists for that. Personally I just try to buy what I like for a price I can pay for (which is not always simple ! ) but when I have to spend a lot of money on something I try to gather the more info I can on the artist, to understand his background and guess what will be its evolution in the future... Galleries are supposed to help you on that point even if some of them just care about selling at any cost Ask them !

would it be something to do with the resolution your seeing through the camera? I know on mobile phones the pictures looked really clear in comparison....
