Matt Small, by graeme501 on Feb 21, 2008 15:46:40 GMT 1, a question that has confused me for a long time
why hasnt matt small sold out a print yet ?
i think his stuff is fantastic, i have ahmed, his book with the artwork in it, and am waiting on the ectching from brp. his stuff is top quality, printed brilliantly, and many people go on about how good he is, but has still yet to sell out a print - why do u think this is ?
im not saying this is a bad thing, as it makes it easy to pick up his stuff at affordable prices, its just that he seems to have lots of fans on the forum but this doesnt translate into print sales - while many lesser artists less out bigger editions of much less quality IMHO

Matt Small, by seidbereit on Feb 21, 2008 16:01:50 GMT 1, Could it be because his originals are so textured that the prints fall a long way short of replicating them?
I've only seen two prints and thought they were both top notch in terms of colours/vibrancy but I can imagine the originals are on a completely different (i.e. miles higher) level of texture again. I've yet to see a real original in the flesh though.

Matt Small, by pezlow on Feb 21, 2008 16:08:29 GMT 1, Simple - his work isn't flippable at the moment. He's still doing really well as an artist - originals sell out quickly, solo show at Leonard street etc etc.
There are lots of prints that I am surprised haven't sold out yet - the two swoon prints at BRP, the logan hicks print, the Borf print at paper monster, the Eine Elton prints etc etc. Just enjoy these artists being a flipper free zone.

Matt Small, by Guest on Feb 21, 2008 16:37:08 GMT 1, The etched moses is my favorite print he has released so far. would love one of his originals, but slightly out of my price bracket. Im sure he has gained a lot more fans after the recent BRP show, which may lead to his prints selling out. Enjoy the flipper free zone

Matt Small, by jamieb on Feb 21, 2008 17:12:43 GMT 1, Must admit I'm not too sure about his prints, but thought the originals of his at the BRP were stunning.
I think that prints like ahmed don't really convey the image as well as the originals, although I do really like the etching from the show.

Available of the website @ £20 - although I think these are not the ones with the 100 limited print.

I would like to see something other than portraits...not sure if he has done anything else or if it would work as well.

Matt Small, by tomjedimaster on Feb 22, 2008 1:01:59 GMT 1, his work is great. but it creeps my mrs when she looks at a piece close up. she wouldn't let me buy the fridge door that was at LSG...so she got me to buy her a SMEG instead.

Matt Small, by Heavyconsumer on Feb 23, 2008 18:30:09 GMT 1, Maybe there's something to the portrait only comment above. I have an etching (multiple) and a print and I'm not sure I'd want another MS unless he varied the subject matter. Love his work though and wish I had the spare coin to grab one of his originals.

Matt Small, by Alan Craig on Feb 23, 2008 19:01:06 GMT 1, Matt has done other than portraits, I remember seeing landscape views at Sesame (example here:http://www.sesameart.com/artworkdetail.php?Id_Artwork=308) which I thought looked great. But, as I remember Mike Snelle saying, if you're going to own one Matt Small original, it's got to be a portrait. Which I thought was a pretty good call.

Matt Small, by dave313perry on Feb 23, 2008 19:03:22 GMT 1, always been a big fan - cant afford an original!
www.sesameart.com/searchresults.php?artistform=44
few nice pieces here but nearly all sold out, and an example of work other than portraits as well for those that havnt seen them. i would also like to see him transform his techniques into other subject matter.
but i was told by the man himself that he may not be too productive over the next couple of years, abit of a time-out
Edit . what alancraig said i just type too slow!!
