Black Rat Press Print Show, by stradled on Feb 17, 2008 3:09:17 GMT 1, just got back - i managed to nab a d*face death and glory collage (the one with the speech bubbles about the dishwasher, not the walmart one), the blue d*face print, and blek le rat space cowboy...... so it's a lot of pasta and beans on toast for me... i turned up at about 2:45, was about the third lot in. was fascinating to how the prints were made. i got a chance to speak to the guys there for a little bit, but it was mostly about how great i thought the stuff they made was, not how they actually made them. still, lovely people. met a couple of people from the forum - straddle to name one (met you in the d*face queue!! - have a good trip back!), nice to put some faces to names. all in all a great show!
Trip back to Scotland tommorow, but happy with my purchases and also the show. Had a great time, lots of good street art on the walk down that I had only seen photos of in the past.
Looking forward to coming back down for some more shows in the future.

Black Rat Press Print Show, by instinct on Feb 17, 2008 3:34:38 GMT 1, manchester mike comic book parody of romans queue photos is important! do not shy away from it! for me it offers a further insight into the idea of flipping. a concept which we all must develop our understanding of in order to stay ahead of the game?!? and its funny!

Black Rat Press Print Show, by yapsey on Feb 17, 2008 8:32:59 GMT 1, Totally agree with most of what has been said about the show. A little bit of a let down after spending and hour and a half queuing in the freezing cold for a disappointing D*Face print. A bit of a snap decision and went for Street Improvement 2 to justify catching pneumonia. All the people there were cool enough but there did seem to be a lot of toffs with available cash buying up art with daddy's money. Matt Small's new work was very impressive though - the VCR's were very nice with some great paint effects. D*Face stuff was much the same as the White Noise show, but I was impressed with the metal Chรฉ's. Overall it would have been nice to seen something new from him instead of more tear-up collage pieces. Hopefully he's working on something great for later in the year.
what a pretentious thing to say - just because there were young people there who spoke 'posh' and spending money, you're going to hold it against them and going to resent it?? this boils down to jeaousy - i saw a young guy, couldn't have been more than 25 with a bill for over ยฃ5000 who spoke quite posh, but he was still freezing his arse off with the rest of everybody else for a couple hours i bet - lets not turn this into the everlasting class war - this is meant to be about the art!!!

Black Rat Press Print Show, by pezlow on Feb 17, 2008 9:07:02 GMT 1, Hope everyone enjoyed themselves. Whilst you were all ogling quality art and downing beers I was playing Singstar with about a million 6 year olds (well it felt like that anyway!). Rock and Roll.
The whole queueing thing really puzzles me. I could well understand queueing for the Argentina swoon print (it looks beautiful) but from all accounts this wasn't sold out even once the queue had died down.
So I assume people were queueing for the Dface prints? Now I accept that these prints have some merit - indeed the street improvement stuff is my favourite dface work (which isn't saying much!). They are at least original and funny. But I really can't see them going for much of a premium on the bay. If it is anything like the last few dface releases they may well go for around cost. So if you are a flipper you have queued for hours for a small profit. If you are a fan you have queued when you can probably have bought one off the bay for just a little bit above premium.
I fully understand that some people were queueing for one-offs and things (yet another bloody cliche collage!!) or some quality blek monoprints but for those who just queued for the street improvement prints.... why???

Black Rat Press Print Show, by G-Man on Feb 17, 2008 9:18:42 GMT 1, The queueing was all part of the experience Pez...
Free beer always is a big draw for me prints or not! LOL
The DFace Street Improvements were good.. I went for number 2 as I prefered the colours
I was blown away though by something that noone has mentioned and that was the Slinkachu stuff... really clever and reasonably priced

Black Rat Press Print Show, by craigf on Feb 17, 2008 9:40:48 GMT 1, help me out here if i got my info right ? matt small etchings, black and white ed.50 ยฃ195 ? sold out or not ?
Still available when I left. They were next to two colourway one offs which I think meant some ppl may have thought they were the same price (ยฃ600 ish). I think Matt's work is stunning, but my gf has a thing about faces on the wall and finds them artistically impressive, but a little scary
Re the queuing for a DFace, I queued without any expectation of a release or there being anything that I would want & could afford to buy. When I got in there were 3 of one of the versions that lead to a snap do I / don't I decision. I guess if you did q just to buy and flip you might get burned / be disappointed that it was nothing new. One thing that was strange to me was I prefered the image of the 1st DFace, but the 2nd sold out and when I left there were still a few of the 1st version left
p.s. how about a utube clip of Perry doing singstar ;D

He was just inside the door and most people seemed to go past him straight to the dface's, really nice guy and nice work hello to you and met some people off the forum in the queue hello to you all as well, yea it was cold but once in free beer, so can't understand all the moaning. Here's to the next and more free beer!

I enjoyed the queue, was there from 8-30 hoping for a one-off/test print. When I weigh up the time against cost on the secondary market it's the only way I can afford to get anything a bit different. I also really like the social side of it, once you're inside there's the scramble to buy, it's noisier, people are half-cut and I find it harder to chat but outside waiting is a great chance for to talk art with other collectors in the flesh which I don't get to do at home (hello to everyone I met). There were a couple of lads who'd been there since about 6-30 but they thought the show opened at 10 and that that was the only way to get the D*face print, they were pretty gutted to only get one each but very cool about it hanging around late chatting and despite missing out were both putting it down as a good learning experience. The show prints seemed to sell out before the queue finished so maybe there was a reason for anyone who queued. There might have been a few expecting a get rich quick Walker as well.
Anyhow liked queuing (I'm such a Brit) enjoyed the company time flew by until 3-30 when it became a drag and I came away with a Blek "sort of origionalish" so it all worked out good for me.
Oh yeah and my first Slinkachu, only a quid, bargain ;D

Black Rat Press Print Show, by rydal on Feb 17, 2008 10:56:37 GMT 1, In defence of the guy in the photo with the hoodie (and now devil horms!) seemingly labelled a flipper, I queued with him for 4 hours, he's a sound guy called Liam who is a genuine fan with a great collection including an original Adam Neate. He actually works in one of the major auction houses.

Black Rat Press Print Show, by marshman on Feb 17, 2008 10:58:00 GMT 1, Hey guys, good to meet some of you inside. Here are a couple of pictures of Mr Small. First time got to chat to Matt and what a top bloke he is.
As you heard he cut his hand open on a bottle of beer literally 5 mins before opening, rushed to A&E for some repair then back to carry on, albeit a little more restricted than before ;-) I mean he could not hold his beer AND work!!!

Black Rat Press Print Show, by insite on Feb 17, 2008 10:59:00 GMT 1, Nice one and good on you insite
Cheers snakes, I'm well chuffed Blek rats all framed up for less than an U/S banksy rat.
Thought the show prints were nice as well but couldn't stretch to them as well, funny thing with D*Face everyone moans nothing new but at the same time says bring back the old classics like D Dog, then when he does, street improvements, it's same old same old again. I liked them and wouldn't have minded a pair but set of 5 means ยฃ1k and a lot of wall so I'm glad I didn't get caught up in the excitement.

Black Rat Press Print Show, by benya on Feb 17, 2008 12:14:38 GMT 1, Come on people - this was a great show........
I linned up for an hour or so and yes it was freezing but having said that Mike regularly visited the line and informed people what was going on.
I decided to opt out of buying any prints but the quality of the work on show was brilliant and watching and learning about the art printing process I found very interesting.
Free beer, great art, good vibe - what more can people want?
Hats of to BRP and the crew for a great show

Black Rat Press Print Show, by bristolboy on Feb 17, 2008 12:34:12 GMT 1, Im glad I still made the trip, I originally booked with the aim of getting Nick Walkers TMA (we all know what happened there) But am glad I made the effort. Got there around 10:30 and was totally numb by 16:00 absolutely freezing, met some nice people saw some amazing pieces on the walls around the BRP building. The Dface collages although maybe a little dated still looked incredible to me. In hindsight not really feeling the street improvements prints, though got #2 on impulse. Really liked Slinkachu, got myself a tiny tiny piece from him. The Matt small stuff was great too. The print demo's were also a great touch, very interesting.
All in all a well organised show, congrats to BRP.

Black Rat Press Print Show, by T-Bro on Feb 17, 2008 14:23:25 GMT 1,
Thought I would tell you about my day at the brp print show.
Started off with missing my train from Worcester at 9:30, it left dead on time - I got delayed behind a delivery truck outside my house blocking the road - not a good start! Went and got a bacon sandwich a cup of tea and then caught the next train which wasnโt actually too much of wait. Lovely train journey through the countryside down to Paddington. Hooked up with a friend at Old Street station and he pointed out some of the sights, the micallef street art and I pointed out some others nick walkers, Eine, London Police, invader and others. Being from a small town it was really nice to walk round and be just see images that excite me! We got to Farringdon Street at around 2 and looked at the queue, decided it wasnโt that bad so we went and got some coffee and muffins.
Went back to the queue for bout 3:30, it hadnโt really grown that much. So settled in for a half an ours fun queuing, met a lovely couple stood behind us, discussed our collections and we a little gutted to see mr small come running past with a cut hand! Doh or so we thought. And then we started to move. It was doors opened dead on 4 and I think we were in the third waive to get in. There was rush and people almost went into another queue immediately! I found this bit bizarre as people seemed to queue up without knowing which print it was and who it was by, after 10 minutes or so and after grabbing a few beers I did join said queue but was still not convinced of the actual print I was going to buy, taking the time in the queue to sum things up, and look at the printing process.
Then after queuing for the print most people joined another queue to pay! Craziness!! I just waited until the queue went down, by waiting I mean drinking more beer, talking to matt small and generally enjoying myself! Stayed till about 7 then went and got a tasty burger at The Diner. Then home to Worcestershire, although this involved First Great western cancelling the train and having to get taxi back from oxford.
All in all a good day
