Ruralhick, while everyone's opinion is valid, believing that one's own is more valid is a pretty arrogant trait. One would hope you could reread this thread and be self aware enough to spot the tone of self-importance that overrides and somewhat dilutes your comments. As an appreciator of art, which I believe you are, I'm certain (looking at your comments and use of language) that you're smart enough to present your opinions in a less abrasive and thus more constructive manner. In that instance said opinions are far more likely to be helpful (effective even) and less so to offend. Just friendly advice!

For what it's worth I strongly disagree. While I don't find the subject matter overly creative, I do find the technique and effect innovative and intriguing enough to keep me looking, not to mention the fact that the piece is aesthetically pleasing. Like any piece, some will like it more than others, but I've read nothing from you that validates this sense that you feel your own opinion should be considered more highly or qualified than those of the artists who've commended the work. I did ask if you could qualify your comment through genuine intrigue, but you've failed to do so, instead repeating negative themes and professing to have greater insight to the "art world" than others without explanation as to why this is. Opinions are opinions not facts and should be presented as such.

Never said it was new or innovative. Since when does art have to be new and innovative to be good/ effective/ just beatiful anyway??

My point was in answer to rurals rant about "real" galleries and paint drips.

The market rate is the market rate. It cost almost 4 grand because people are prepared to pay 4 grand. Has banksy's Kate Moss become almost 50 times better than it was when it first sold for (I think) 2 grand. Obviously not. But the market dictates the price is flirting with 90 grand, so up it goes.

By all means don't like it, but for goodness sake give a real reason, not a meaningless comment.

If an artist chooses to post on this board then surely you'll agree that's their choice - for critiques as well as 'abuse' on occasion.

Sahoria, how dare you? That sort of attitude will get you nowhere! It's quite clear by his use of caps that Rural's opinion is far more valid! Although I still haven't read why that is!

I can't help but feel he's talking bollox though! When I look at these new pieces of NW in this particular style, what jumps out at me is his innovative use of unusual media and the overall effect, which is extremely attractive. Sahoria, I think we'll have to just roll over and plead simplicity! (and of course bow to the superiority of rural) Clearly there need be much more to art than the enjoyment of the beholder, I'm just too simple to understand what that is. Here was me thinking that Banksy and Neate were onto something with their questioning the value and meaning of art, but they must be wrong too I guess!
