Banksy Happy Chopper Print, by nex on Apr 21, 2017 0:29:12 GMT 1, Interesting logic here - I'm not criticising, just rambling - so bear with me! By definition, the seller doesn't receive the buyers premium, so the value he accepted for the piece is the hammer price. Therefore, although someone has technically paid more he/she was willing to let the piece go in this instance for $11k. Also, saying that £10.5k is good because a gallery sold one for £11k is silly since this is a forum that prides itself in not ripping each other off with gallery prices, and galleries take commission out of the sale price. Just my 2 pence. Understood, mate. But, arguably, the "value" of a piece is supported by auction results as to what a buyer paid and not what the seller received. So, I wouldn't call £11K "gallery pricing" as that figure is supported by what a seller actually paid at an actual auction and not simply what a gallery was asking for. We all know that anyone (or any gallery) can ask whatever price they want for a piece but that doesn't necessarily mean that the piece will achieve such a result. In this instance, we have an actual sale at £11K to the buyer and not just an asking price that may or may not have come to fruition. Just my 2 cents
an auction is NOT a normal sale setting, a sale through that method can be an 'indicator' but given the psychology at play in that environment - that is all.

I think the last one Hangup sold was advertised at £12k.

Banksy Happy Chopper Print, by nex on Apr 21, 2017 0:44:58 GMT 1, Apologies for interfering in your fs thread, I'm not interested in getting in a discussion on gallery sale prices (although suffice to say there are plenty of smoke and mirrors in that field + an uninformed clientele shall we say being led to water). I just wanted to make a statement regarding this new found belief here that sale prices are the same wherever they come from. They are clearly not.
Anyway you're offering yours for less than those stated, so that's cool.
Good luck with your sale.

"By any artist" Might be your view @cjp but the reality of prices now are independent of your opinion. Unsigned LIITA went for $25k just a few weeks ago. It's a simple matter of an ever increasing demand and a decreasing supply.

"By any artist" Might be your view @cjp but the reality of prices now are independent of your opinion. Unsigned LIITA went for $25k just a few weeks ago. It's a simple matter of an ever increasing demand and a decreasing supply. Your probably Right but I think it's more likely that the market has been manipulated rather than supply and demand, who do you think controls the supply and demand for Banksy's work? It's just my opinion of course and the experience I have gained dealing in art over the years. I know the art market is bent as a bottle of chips and have seen it even at the low level that I deal in, but hey that's how it is and if your in this game you just have to accept it.
My original statement was nothing to do with supply or demand of Banky's work but purely that I think they are f#c#ing bananas to pay so much money for a piece of work that the artist in question has probably not even touched. I can understand people paying this for a signed work's and more for his original pieces because you would hope that he has actually had a hand in the making of it, some People will pay extortionate figures for art because they are lead to believe that it is worth that much, people will pay it and do pay it because they just can and to some people this is just pocket change.
I still feel and strongly believe that the supply and demand is controlled and manipulated and this could be by a number of way's either by shill bidding at auctions or by a well connected p.r team either way it makes no odd's to me as I am now way off ever being able to afford to buy a Banksy as much as I like his work it has now moved into a different class of collector/dealer and if I remember correctly the catalyst for the interest in Banksy was when the world news organisations announced that Brad and Angelina had bought some work's by him.
I do think it's great for those that bought Banksy's work before he was famous based purely on the fact that they loved the artwork, and I think it's great for those that have been able to make a bit money for themselves of the back of it but I feel something has changed with Banksy and something just does not fit right anymore and that is why so many threads are posted on here debating Banksy and his art.
I know I am probably setting myself up for a lot of abuse but this is a forum of many differing opinions and this is just mine.

What I really dont understand is the rise in his vinyl prices....who is paying that sort of money for a record they are never likely to listen too
